Who's really running Sheffield -elected cllr's or unelected party members?

Recommended Posts

Unlike you guys who all still live in Sheffield I have a disadvantage that I don't know the day to day happenings or the In's and outs of situations unless I set it as a task that is, then the ferret that is Mr Wolfy will employ every means possible, legal or otherwise to get to the bottom of something.

However the fact that I'm not there day to day helps me in the sense that I'm not emotional about issues that arise from time to time, take this thing with SLH for instance, for I believe in basic democracy and the empowerment of the people (and I was talking this way many years before the word empowerment lost its meaning issued so many times in the doublespeak of the traitors of both class and polemic).

On the one hand Blue the method of raising policy in the labour party is the right thing to do, and when I was a member if I saw a councilor breaking with policy I'd make sure they were deselected at the very first opportunity and there's a lot that I had to chop up even back then in the eighties. These days councilors don't take the slightest notice of either the party or the electorate, MP's do and have too because they will get the chop if they start to disagree with their constituency and this is why people like Meg Munn have been so vocal re the graves park issue, the membership is ready with the rope, so there is now a split in the labour party.

Once upon a time councilors would take a lead off MP's because MP's also can influence ward policy through talking to ward officers, when I was chair of Norton I spoke regularly with Bill Michie, I can honestly say I never had any disagreement with him, he was very sensible and always listened being a man that actually believed in what he was doing.

I have to say that I have ZERO confidence in the labour councilors in Sheffield at the moment, most of them don't have enough intelligence to run a sweet shop let alone a council the size of Sheffield, which is why its really run by its officers and the only thing the labour councilors do is **** things up that they feel they need to interfere with for the crazy reasons they come up with from time to time.

Don't get me wrong the liberals also have some dead wood and the odd one or two that I wouldn't trust at the end of a barge pole, but all in all I'd say as a socialist they are the most socialist party in Sheffield at the moment, sad, very sad.

So the liberals get my support, such that it is.

I totally agree with this post. Its also the lack of integrity both nationally and locally that has lost labour my respect and vote. How refreshing it would be for someone from any party to just admit to making a mistake and/or to be honest once in a while.

........and you're a Norther Soul fan too.

On occasions, when the moon is in the correct position, the numbers all line up, and I can be arsed to do so, I'll actually make a post such as the above.

However, when I'm pressing an agenda, and therefore pushing someones buttons, like the SLH thread you might find my posts aggressive and very bolshoi, but just like labour councilors I know how to play hardball, I'm just smarter and better at it than the cabbages I'm 'playing' with.

........and Blue, can you spot the clue, this ones really cryptic, just for you, LOL.

Well! It seems like even the LibDems have had enough of Mr Brighton being unable to put any substance to his allegations:

"Council ban on man's questions

Published Date: 10 November 2008

A MAN who has spent years making unfounded allegations against Sheffield Council has been banned from asking any more questions.

Martin Brighton, from Low Edges, has attended almost every full council and cabinet meeting for years but council bosses finally lost their patience with him when he turned up to ask a record eight questions.

He made a series of serious allegations, without any evidence, against a mysterious "third party" including claims teenagers were being "groomed" and council corruption.

It was the final straw for Council Leader Coun Paul Scriven who says the authority will not waste any more time dealing with Mr Brighton's questions.

Coun Scriven told Mr Brighton at a Town Hall meeting: "I don't even understand your questions as you keep referring to a third party nobody is aware of.

"You have made serious allegations about child abuse and corruption and the use of taxpayers' money and I suggest you report these to the police, Ombudsman and the Freedom Commission.

"This authority is open and fair but we refuse now to answer your questions until you have reported them to the police.

"You have been told on four occasions to contact the police and you must complain to the appropriate authority."

After the meeting Mr Brighton told The Star he would take his allegations to the police.

..............."
