There were two lads killed in that accident down Loxley bottoms,one of them was my nephew, his name was David Wright he was 15 years old and lived on Dodd Street, I can,t remember the other lads name but one or two others were injured as well.Hope this helps.

As youngsters we used to call it Freds. We used to go on a Friday and Saturday nights. Fred and Ada used to show us all the latest dances, then teach us all it. I learned how to do the twist there, but I must say not very well. They also used to do a progressive barn dance where you change partners, this was very good cos you could get to dance with a girl (or boy) you fancied. Many a romance was started on that dance floor. If I remember rightly, Fred used to like a tipple or two andcould often be found in the pub on the corner.

Hi Angela You are right about the Glossop family being gypsies, my mother was Darkie Glossops daughter Annie. The thing you are wrong about is that he had 11 children and not seven. Did they call your father Michael and did he live in the earl 70's near the Wisewood Inn on Loxley Road, I believe he was an ambulance driver. If this is so then we are related in some way, Michael is my cousin.
