  1. Went to see the newly reformed Crookes Brass Band play testerday at Wesley Hall in Crookes yesterday. Was a fantastic performance. Highly entertaining and a good range of music was played. They're looking to do more performances in the near future. I'd highly recommend going to see them if you get the opportunity.Β  They're also looking for new members of all abilities to join them...

  2. Thing is that top execs could quite easily go into the private sector and earn a lot more than Β£250k. We need quality running this fine city and have to pay accordingly.Β  I know tradesmen earning Β£200k a year with nothing like the levels of responsibility of people like KJ.

Does anyone know of any child friendly Indian restaurants with high chairs in Sheffield? Me and the missus are wanting to go out for a curry Saturday tea time with our 2 year old daughter. TIA

Not been for a while but I seem to remember that Akbars in West One have some high chairs. They're open early doors from 5pm too.Β

if anything relish its a poisonΒ

I care. I regard Hendo's as part of Sheffields fabric and part of our culture. I think it's tremendous that the building has been restored to its former glory.Β  And Hendo's relish is just the best too...I've introduced people all over the world to it and they love it too.Β

True. One pub in Blackpool called Ma Kelly's on the South ShoreΒ  charge Β£1.80 a pint for John Smith's, Fosters, Strongbow. Yet other pubsΒ  chargeΒ  anything from Β£3.25 to Β£6.50 a pint!Β

I wouldn't pay a quid a pint for any of that rubbish.Β  Absolutely yuk. Rather pay Β£5/pint and have a decent pint than 3 pints of cheap, tasteless nastiness, but each to their own.

  6. Just been sent this article off Facebook.... after 2 disappointing curries this weekend near Bradford, I'm definitely off there next weekend...

Beloved Indian restaurant, Manzil Spice - Bar & Restaurant, located on Ecclesall Road has undergone a significant transformation since November 2023 with new management and a team of chefs from a renowned restaurant that some of you will be familiar with, Mangla, which sadly closed its doors in 2022.

    Β

"We are thrilled to welcome such talented chefs to our team. Their wealth of experience and passion for Indian cuisine perfectly aligns with our vision to reclaim our status as a culinary landmark in the city. The high ratings on Google reviews and TripAdvisor are a testament to the exceptional dining experience we are providing and in response to the overwhelming success, we have decided to extend our opening hours and are now open on Mondays."

    Β

The curry house was on Spital Hill for almost 40 years and built up a huge following for its traditional Indian and Kashmiri dishes which you can now enjoy at Manzil Spice. From their signature aromatic lamb and chicken handi, prepared with a traditional Balti recipe, to their Manzil Mix Platter and house specialties like the creamy butter chicken and fiery chicken jalfrezi. There is something for everybody.

    Β

The change comes as a breath of fresh air for patrons who have long cherished the authentic homemade flavours and ambiance of Mangla. "I have fond memories of dining at Mangal, and I can't wait to see what the chefs have in store for us," remarked a longtime customer.

You'll never know whether or not that's true though will you?Β  Children and grandchildren can be a pain at times but to know and care forΒ someone far more than you care for yourself is an incredible gift.

Nah, not for me at all. This world isn't a nice place and it will only get worse. IΒ also prefer to work less hours and travel.Β

If it costs him Β£2 in petrol there and back to the rank and Β£1 overhead costs (maintenance, insurance etc) plus 10% VAT that's Β£3.30. Β£7-Β£3.30 = Β£3.70 profit. That's not bad for 10 minutes' work. It's the equivalent of Β£22.20 per hour, almost double minimum wage.Β

When you're self employed Β£22.20 per hour isn't enough, even if you got a guaranteed 8 hours at that rate. You've got to cover sickness, van, fuel, holidays, pension, tools, clothes, accountants etc. I know cleaners who charge more than that... and rightly so. As a tradesman,Β  I'd look at minimum of Β£250/day and ideally Β£300-Β£400 / day. The minimum wage shouldn't be used as a barometer for good pay... it isn't.Β  It's an absolute minimum and most people will need support from the state if they are living on that sort of money.

I've got some Greggs Crocs. My mates son bought 'em for me as a joke. But they're brilliant. Super comfy, ideal for the beach and weigh nothing in your suitcase.Β  My missus can't stand the sight of them but IΒ wear them frequently.Β
