  1. Hi Pauline I am a very good friend of John Barnsley who is a direct descendant of George Barnsley and I will pass your interest in the family to him when he returns from holiday. You may know John or know of him and he may be able to throw some light on the whereabouts of the portrait of George Barnsley. Regards Sybrix
  2. Trying to trace Ros Hopewell who used to live near the top of Granville Road in the early 1960's. She and her Mother were talking about going to Australia around 1962/3. Ros would have been about 21 years old at this time. Does anyone remember her and possibly know where she is living now ?
  3. Hi, I am trying to trace Ros. Hopewell (maiden name) who was living near the top of Granville Road, Sheffield. She used to work for Lionel Darlow where I first met her and she would be in her mid-sixties now. She was talking about emigrating to Australia but I lost touch with her around 1961/2. Could anyone who remembers her please contact me. Many thanks.
  4. Trying to trace Ros. Hopewell who worked at Darlows Mail Order in Carver Street in about 1961/2. She lived near the top of Granville Road.
  5. Hi Steve I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you the other night and it was very nice to talk over the past and thanks for filling so many gaps in my memory about the final days at E & B. I hope that the info. I gave you has helped and whenever it suits you, give me a ring and I will look forward to meeting you again. Kind regards Tony
  6. Sorry Steve, I didn't pick up your message on 31.08.09 and so I couldn't reply. My fault - I did go to The Dore Moor Inn tonight and assumed that you had been called out again. However, I did check with Lil's messages on the Sheffield Forum at 7.20pm tonight and your message above was not showing. Anyway, never mind - these things happen. Perhaps you could let me know when another night or afternoon if that is easier, is convenient. Perhaps third time lucky. Regards Tony
  7. I quite understand - Steve's job comes first. I blame myself for not checking my inbox before I set off last Thursday. I'll look forward to hearing from you about the 2nd. Regards Tony
  8. Hi Lil No I didn't get your message until I got back home. I waited from 7.45pm until 8.45pm and when Steve didn't turn up I gathered something had gone wrong. These things happen, so don't worry. Perhaps you can let me know when another day is convenient for Steve for us to meet at the same place. However, the next evening I have free is Wednesday, 2nd. September. Perhaps you can let me know if this is OK for him. Regards Tony
  9. Sorry Lil, I'm out in the afternoon and so can we still arrange to meet at The Dore Moor Inn at 8.00pm please. Tony
  10. Hi Lil Slight change of plan for tomorrow night. There is a Jazz Night at the Norfolk Arms on a Thursday and it gets very busy. Can I suggest that I meet Steve at The Dore Moor Inn which is on the A625 about a mile from Whirlow going towards Hathersage at 8.00pm. as planned ? As the crow flies, it is only about a mile across country from the Norfolk Arms. Perhaps you can email me if this is convenient or if not, we could make it another night next week. Regards Tony
  11. Hi Lil Yes, Thursday evening will be fine for me. I live in Sandygate but if Steve can come to the Norfolk Arms, Ringinglow, at the top of Ringinglow Road for about 8.00pm. I will wait for him in the car park - my car Reg. J 7 EMB - Eaton & Booth if you say it quickly - and then we can go inside for a drink and chat. I look forward to meeting him and talking about a subject still very close to my heart. Kind regards Tony
  12. Hi Lil, I am happy to meet Steve this Wednesday at a pub in Ridgeway at around 12.30pm. However, not knowing Ridgeway very well perhaps you could suggest a pub where we can meet at this time on Wednesday. Tony
  13. Hi Lil I'd be happy to meet Steve anywhere in the Sheffield/Rotherham area. I come to Rotherham as one of my sons in law is an estate agent in Moorgate - Fenton Board - and so if Steve would like to name a place and date /time, I'll let you know if this is convenient with me as we will be going away shortly. Kind regards Tony
  14. Hi I will find a copy of the history I compiled of Eaton & Booth & Swift Brothers which I wrote in 1987. However, I must point out that it does not contain any original photographs just photocopies of photographs which were lent to me by Jack Dutchman, who died earlier this year, and Fred Hoole. I don't know if Fred is still alive but he had a box full of photos. My Father was Ted Brookes who ran the rolling mill side of Eaton & Booth from 1944 until his retirement in 1970. He died in 1979. I actually started my working life at Eaton & Booth in 1959 as a tea boy but was sacked by my Father for hitting a man called 'Bing' Crosby who had passed an unforgivable remark about my family. Your husband may remember Bing. My Father and I were both Shareholders of E & B, my Father being appointed Joint Managing Director in 1947 with Ted Trickett. It was a very sad day when the new mill in Rotherham had to close but this was caused by a third party being unable to continue with their investment and the then Directors being unable to run the new mill at a profit without a new investor. The new mill was a fantastic success, the first of its kind in the world. It was eventually bought by an American concern and to my knowledge is still running to this day. I still live in Sheffield and would be very pleased to meet your husband or yourself at a time convenient to yourselves when I can give you a copy of my booklet for you to keep. Kind regards Tony Brookes
  15. I have several photos of Eaton & Booth and a short history of the Company from its inception. Tony Brookes
