Check your grammar, punctuation, spaces between full stops and capital letters etc etc. I looked at it briefly, and if I was a potential customer, I would be, to borrow a quote from your site "leaving the site with no likelihood of return"Â
For example "This is why i create websites that is user friendly". Poor grammar, and no full stop.

OK, maybe a little explanation. The forum doesn't allow self promotion and this section is about asking for advice on anything to do with running a business or being employed in a business.

So, as an example if you wrote "Does anyone think chocolate tea pots would sell?" then it would be obvious you sell chocolate tea pots and are self promoting...not allowed.

However if you phrased the question "I have an idea for a confectionery business and need to know where I can find out more about Hygiene regulations", then this would be allowed.

Good advice above. We use an accountant to advise if we have entered everything under the correct category in our accounts and what can and can't be claimed as expenses and the implications of the various options.

Many years ago my father in law was a private taxi driver in Bradford. The way it worked was like this:
1. You paid a weekly subscription for your 'radio' (I suspect it is a Smart device these days)
2. The fare you collected was yours
3. You were responsible for all your costs
4. Local authorities had their local rules about what type of car you could use (age was normally an important consideration)

However with the introduction of smart metering/GPS/Uber, the way the market operates may well have changed.

I agree Anna. To the OP, if your partner is only driving for them then HMRC would treat him as being employed by the company he is contracting with. Regarding the 14p/mile; are they providing the Van? If so then HMRC would definitely consider him to be an employee!

Otherwise my advice would be to go and fund other customers who would pay a fair amount/hour and a mileage rate to cover the true costs of the van.

The issue is they've used my illustrations for another purpose, on a job I haven't agreed to work on – and credited it to someone else.

When we design a product for a client, once we have been paid, the rights to the design belong to them and they are within their rights to do whatever they see fit with it.

I was paid my day rate for the time spent doing the work but, since it wasn’t used commercially, there was no sign-off for print and no documents or written statements were drafted transferring rights.

If you were paid I am not sure what the issue is (unless your 'contract' included an on going royalty fee for your work if it was ever used commercially)?

The parts are our own designs but we don't have the machinery needed to manufacture these ourselves to match production needs so need to outsource these parts so not reverse engineering.Â

I'm in need of CAD drawings of pieces of metalwork such as flanges so these can be sent off to be manufactured. The drawings will often be of physical items that we need to replicate.Â
I understand. This is what we would call 'reverse engineering'.

If your customer is a domestic customer follow this advice.Â
Keep all quotes and invoices, T&Cs and any communication between you and customer. Don't verbally contact the customer from now on, do everything via email or letter.

Give the customer 28 days from the date on your invoice to get the reasons why they are not paying you in writing and to you.
Â
If 28 days pass and you don't hear anything, send a letter before action, debt-guard do one online and are pretty good. You can now start charging interest at 0.08%

To work it out - if you owed £500 - £500 x 0.08 = £40 that's what interest you can charge for the year.

£40 divided by 365 = £0.11 a day interest ( a joke I know )

When your further down the the road and don't want mediation you'll have to pay £80.00 hearing fee

You can claim all this back, plus your interest and expenses, it will take about 6/8 months to get it to court, make sure you have all paper work and prove there is no good reason for non payment

I had a 'professional' design me a website which turned out to be rubbish … no flair whatsoever. Didn't even work properly on tablets and smartphones.I ended up asking him to remove it from the interwave and designed my own using a Wix premium plan and my own domain name. Bit of a learning curve, but I now have very favourable comments and it's easy to muck around with.

I'd give it a go and save stacks of dosh. You can easily do all of the stuff you've mentioned.

I agree re Wix but I think the OP might need a content management system if they are regularly updating/adding new pages and content.

Go into 1&1 internet make you own website they have all the tools and then you can set it live works really good I did mine that way and not had any problems it's free until you go live then I think it's about £10 per month but extremely goodÂ
wix.com is very good too. It has some very simple editing tools to make both a web and mobile friendly site...take a look at http://www.picsima.com which cost $100 to create.

Paul, why doesn't your friend go back to the person who interviewed her and ask for 5 minutes of their time and ask? If they cannot be bothered to give her the time, would she have wanted to work for them in the first place...I know I would always give someone feedback on why they didn't get the job if they were to ask me

why change it now if you have more nett profit than 10k pay yourself dividends and save money on NI etc. if you have no profit this year you may have next?

The dividend threshold is now £5K...even so the OP should consider this is tax free as you point out.

As long as the cost of producing and filing the accounts is less that the tax on £5K...it would appear, to me, to be a 'no brainer'.

Plus Limited Liability companies have the benefit that the shareholders liability is limited (subject to any deal with suppliers of credit), whereas a sole trader is exposed to the full liability of any debt.

I have been in business for about 3 years. I am thinking of asking to borrow some more money on my mortgage to do some home improvements. However, my mortgage provider have said I need to provide 2 full years worth of audited accounts. I have always done the accounts myself and submitted a SA as I'm a Sole Trader.

Any ideas what it would involve to get my accounts audited (whatever that means - there seem to be different definitions) and any suggestions for a not too expensive accountant who would do this for me?
