  1. I must have went at a bad time during lunch. Our Katsu curry was cold and the Hokkaido scallops was still raw inside. I wanted to complain but I heard the 2 women chefs arguing in the kitchen so I just paid and left. It was not a nice experience and they did not care whether I left or not. There was no one willing to take responsibility for the bad quality and there was no Manager. Anyway, I won't be back.
  2. Went on Saturday and my first impression was not good. Why oh why does the waitress not clear up all the dirty plates and clean the table asap. They werent busy but I sat down for about 15 minutes before they started cleaning one table. Overall, did not inspire confidence as I thought the place was very dirty and no ventilation because there is so much steam on the windows from the hotpots. Food was very ordinary and the soup base was nothing special. I spent £35 for 2 and thought it expensive as we just had 7 small dishes and 2 soft drinks. I wont go again as I did not think the place was clean enough.
  3. I had a meal at Yama today and apparently, they have a new menu with a lot of new dishes including bento boxes. I had a Chicken Fillet in Teriyaki sauce bento which I definitely recommend. Excellent as usual. Oh yeah, they are doing a £1 Salmon Nigiri offer for any body ordering more than £10 on the bill. Happy Days!
  4. I thought you said you would never eat Sushi in Sheffield! Too much time on your hands or did you just want to see what's in the chiller? Hope it didn't bite you back?
  5. Yo! Yama Sushi is the best if you want a more homely atmosphere and the sushi is superb too!
  6. You have to try Yama Sushi on near the bottom of London Road. You can actually see the fish before its cut thru the chiller and got a great range of Japanese beers. Not expensive and the staff are friendly and helpful. Worth a go!
  7. He should stick to his fish and chips! By the way, you can get fresh live lobsters and crabs from Grimsby so its not only Cod. Have you ever tried a lobster Sashimi?
  8. Obviously, you have no idea how raw fish is kept fresh and processed in good Sushi houses that is why you have made your assumption. Even if you live in Tokyo (which is no where near a port), fish is kept fresh by methods of using fish that is caught that is no older than 2 days old, immediate preparation of cuts and then freezing. Our nearest port is Grimsby and believe it or not fish is delivered fresh daily to Sheffield in markets, hotels and restaurants.
  9. For Sushi and Noodles, its got to be Yama Sushi on London Road. You can pick and choose your own fish from the chiller and it always has special offers. Temaki Salmon Sushi only £1.50 and Tsingtao Beer only £1.60 on special promo. Its a steal!
  10. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have. You can check out what's on the menu in their website: http://www.yamasushi.org.uk You can print out a coupon to use and get free sushi.
  11. Pho 68 has got to be one of the most unauthentic restaurants that I have been to. I went on Sunday and it was 70% full in the evening. Why it seemed busy, I do not know, maybe their clientele don't know good food. When I looked at the menu, I knew it was going to be made by some China chef (not being racialist) as it was full of dishes from a Chinese takeaway. I had the Vietnamese rolls for starters which are not how they should be made, using the wrong pastry and ingredients. It is no different from a Spring roll! Special Vietnam Noodles was just stir-fried in dark soya sauce, not enough ingredients and tasteless. Tofu Roll, again wrong ingredients and fell apart after my first bite. Sorry about the rant but after spending £24 it was the most disappointing meal I had this year. Next place I will go and try is Wong Ting on Matilda Street.
  12. I went today for lunch and had the Japanese Pork in Ginger £5.50. Not bad and got a bit greedy with 2 portions of Nigiri Salmon as they are having a special promotion of £1. Spoke to the Japanese chef behind the counter who used to work in a well-known restaurant in Manchester called "Wasabi". He's been a chef for over 20 years and he's not that old (only in his forties). He does all his own sauces and has the food hygiene certificate for handling raw fish. Its worth giving the place a try.
  13. Went to Yama Sushi on London Road for lunch today and they have a promotion of £1 for Nigiri Salmon. Worth a try. Lunch is pretty cheap at £5.50 for a lunch set.
  14. I like East Ocean Cafe on Matilda Street near The Moor. Very trendy settings and good quality food at a reasonable price. Two meals plus starters as well as bottle of wine 26 squid. Steal!
  15. Thanks for welcoming me to scene. I am a student a Sheffield Hallam and just wanna to let people know about my experiences in every restaurant that I will try in the coming weeks. No doubt, you will hear good and bad views from me. Tonight, I will be in the Vietnamese restaurant Pho 68 on London Road. Keep your eyes peeled for Espanyol:thumbsup:
