Since when has it been obligatory to drive near the speed limit.

Since the time you passed your driving test..!

When I was  learning to drive back in the early 80's...With BSM...My driving instructor told me, when I go for my Test, if the examiner takes you on a dual carriageway with a speed limit of 40MPH...Then DO 40 MPH...!

    It is careless driving.

Most HGV’s on UK motorways are speed limited to 56mph. If you are doing 50 in lane 1, every HGV and coach which comes up behind you has to pull out into lane 2 to overtake you. That then means that anyone driving at the speed limit in lane 2 then has to pull out into lane to overtake the lorries and buses now in lane 2. If the motorway is particularly busy, you will affect the average motorway speed for up to 5-10 miles behind you.

So if you drive for an hour on a reasonably busy motorway, you will force between 600-1000 vehicles of all sizes to make unplanned overtaking moves each having their own level of risk, simply because you don’t know how to use a motorway.

Like many others on this thread, I suggest that you either improve your driving standards or call it a day and hand in your licence.

    Bang on...Great reply.

There is no substitute for the feeling of winning or loosing. If children enter the sports arena and it is a fun sports day for instance( i attended one yesterday with no winning/loosing in the events) they all still wanted to be first and be competitive against their peers but no big deal was made of it.  But if it is a competitive event and you don't care if you win or lose then stay at home and don't take part is disrespectful to your opponent and team mates or get a note from your mum.

I'm competitive, i play my chosen sport to win, if i lose then i make sure that i'm beaten by someone better. Losing isn't the end of world but losing because you aren't competing is a waste of time and energy.

What about OUR Parents?...Who never entered a Sports arena?

I never liked sport, probably because I was no good at it. At school I didn’t give a toss who won a game, race, match  or threw the furthest javelin, shot etc.I didn’t care if I was last in any race or similar activity.  I never wanted to be Victor Ludorum  (Yes, since you ask, I did go to a Grammar school)

I was naturally good at Maths and at school, I would have always preferred double Algebra on a Friday afternoon to double Football/cricket etc.

    Each to his/her own !

You're not on your own fella.. I think a lot has to do with how you were brought up. Me dad wasn't sporty.  He'd sit in the pub all day gerrin Pished. When he died i had to wear sunglasses at the sight of his White legs.!:D

Me mum was a great knitter.

ME?...I'm good at gerrin pished and i have a hankering for yarn.!!

Algebra ? I can categorically say that I have never found a use for it...EVER.!

No, I’ve never heard of a socket set. 🙄 Another really helpful reply. I now remember why after 13 years of using this forum, I rarely bother these days.

After all, with a full time job, garden, allotment, house, caring duties and dog to walk, I should find the time to strip down a Pram, pushchair, carry cot, frame and car seat.. don’t know what’s wrong with me..

Do keep yer knickers on dear... ;) My comment was very much tongue in cheek...:P

Don't the council, or whoever it is, do audits of road signage? I think its laughable that there is a sign on Rivellin valley road warning of ice!

There is a Very Good reason for THAT sign... i'll have you know. !  It's for when I am travelling along that road.  I'm just so cool you see.8):D

Thanks for the helpful reply Octopus99, as for cleaning it myself I would never have thought of that 🙄 There are parts that I can’t get to and stains I can’t remove, otherwise I would have.

See comment above. Thanks so much for your helpful advice, I’ll just get my industrial steamer out....

Forget the Industrial steamer....Get yer Socket set out and strip the thing down to it's bare skeleton..:D

You do possess a Socket set...!  No? :|

    Well get one..! :thumbsup::smile:

Because people would rather argue the toss against rather than take on board the message

There is a VAST difference between 'arguing the toss' and FACTS.

I would've been tempted to fire up the train and move it a few hundred yards. Then refused them medical attention when they had ripped the skin off  their fingers. But that's just me being soft 😊

Why don't these 'Protesters' EVER superglue themselves to the TRACKS...?

When a Train is coming @ 125 MPH......BOOM...NO MORE PROTESTERS...!

It is. I knew I should have employed some jovial emoticons to show the lightness of my subscript, but I prefer not to use them. Hey ho. As you say 'That's life'.

Agreed. i prefer not to use emoticons also.

Yes, we were at cross purposes. I meant, I could think of four reasons why someone [not employed by you] would not be at work at that time.

I can't help it FinBak, but I now think of you as some kind of Scrooge-type employer. My apologies too. I'll try and shake that image from my head.

Your small print..!   Well,  if you can make an opinion of ME as scathing as that... that's how much you can trust what is said On-Line.

I would rather cross your palm with Gold the sooner than take it away from you.

It's sad that folks get the wrong impression.  That's life.
