  1. The media love to make the situation more dramatic and giving the murderer a name is one way to sensationalize it. But why 'the ripper'. There was ever only one real ripper- JACK The Ripper: he literally ripped them apart. The Yorkshire ripper name was coined after jack only because it was the first real 20th Century killing spree matching the 19th Century activities of 'jack'- though Peter Sutcliffe did not actually 'rip them up' but rather prefered the bash em in the head method.
  2. Thanks Bruno- appreciate your advice and best of luck for the new year to you and our family.
  3. Cheers for the update me old chap. I will definatley take a good look around before settling on an area- also looking at Grenocide/eccesfield and possibly Hunters Bar - BUT AWAY FROM THE UNIVERSITY as do not want to be flooded by students.
  4. Hiya all. Anyone wish to advise on Chapeltown please do so kindly as I am looking t rent there for 6 months+ Whats it like and is there somewhere better nearby?
  5. Hey sounds good= let me know if still available
  6. Joe Calzage can be bragadacious as he recently showed the world how to make a world class fighter and feared puncher look stupid- yes, I mean Jeff Lacey. Ok I admit he has not had loads of big name fighters, but when he has fought US guys who are coming with a reputation etc he has performed magnificently.
  7. Sometimes commiting the crime is a greater urge than fearing the consequences:huh:
  8. Anyway.. Hillsborough is not in my top 5 but if worse comes to worse I will look at the nicer parts? I can rent upto £600-£700 pcm and have a budget to buy of £300k
  9. I say Death Penalty MUST be brought back- once it has been proven beyond doubt that certain horendous and evil crimes have been commited by an idividual or group then why not have the Law as was and should be according to Christian/Mulsim Books' a life for a life' etc. Prisons are packed and murderers etc are let out after only serving half their sentance- hardly rehabilitated and free to reoffend!! If Texas,Florida, Califonia etc can still have the death penalty then why cant GB?!
  10. ITV got big time boxing back (Thanks to Mr Warren) and if you have sky, its always on somewhere! HBO in merica still dominate and (apart from the crap heavyweights at the moment- BRING BACK ALI I say) there are some gr8 featherwieght/middlewight and lightweight fighters worth watching.
  11. I too am moving to Sheffield and from the sounds of it, Hillborough is a firm favorite- though I am also looking at Chapeltown/Grenocide/Eccesfield anywhere where the schools are good (got a 5 year old) and is tidy with good people. ANy suggestions would be welcomed.
  12. This year the 2006 sport awards were boring- no one really stood out but at least TWO major names in UK Boxing did something that has major TV and revenue cover so in my book, they could have opted for either the Hit Man or Joe"my hands are f***** " Calzage
  13. I wouldn't class Boxing as a minority sport- its been goin gon for 100 years or so and is one of the richest sports in the world- so that's why I was surprised Zara Philips got it- I mean, who has heard of her on a global level? Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzage are (pretty sure) much more familiar names.
  14. Ricky Hatton deserved it or Joe Calzage and instead, they give it to a Royal!!
  15. You get good people and bad people everywhere- my philosophy has always been ' treat others how you wish to be treated yourself'.
  16. I thought Northerners were better people- i am in London and want to move to sheffield or further. In London we are the masters of rudeness. here they don't ever thank you, even if you saved their life! Road rage is common and the chance of someone opening a door for you is as much as Bin laden winning personality of the year 2006
  17. These matters always get blown out of proportion- sadly, this girl is exploiting the sensitive situation muslims are in already (9/11, 7/7) so has extended the argument to the supreme court of appeal?! Subsequently she lost her job anyway..But main fact is that of we compare it to the BA worker who was refused to allow wearing her 'cross' as to not offend, it has to be seen in its proper context. The 'necklace' is NOT a religious obligation, the crucifix does not necessarily mean your a christian also- I have seen this become a 'fashion' statement worn by non christians(!!). i think in her case she was just showing her 'belief' and doubt it was offensive, but it does not mean other religious symbols need to be discarded- some 'symbols'are not easily got rid of. The sikh and his turban- you cant tell a devout sikh to remove his turban, that's injustice. A jew to shave his locks or beard or a MUSLIM to remove her khimaar(the head scarf) and hijaab(long robe)- not talking about the veil. The veil is optional in some opinions and compulsory with others- I will stand by any muslim woman fighting to keep her headscarf on as a religious obligation (as it is).
  18. There is " no compulsion in religion" (chapter 2) of Koran. This is simply a statement that one cannot be forced to do something- as for 'sharia law' if it is imposed in a country (like Saudi Arabia, parts of Pakistan etc) then by law the people are judged accordingly- e.g. murder is life for a life, etc. Thes elaws were in the old Testament (Torah) and being honest, NEED to be implemented to deter murderers and criminals of all sorts -you know Texas has the highest death penalty rate?! So if sharia is to be established it must be imposed correctly not ruthlessely.
  19. If you got nice people, that's good enough ain't it?
