  1. Our group is still going strong - we've been at it a few years now. We have moved pubs and now also play in the Queen's Head (near the Bus Station). We play on a Monday evening - gaming from 18:30 to 21:30, but usually meet earlier to have some food. We are playing Basic D&D at the moment - If you're interested PM me and I will have a word with the DM to see if he wants another player or not. As far as I am aware, the guys in ROTTOK still play Wednesdays and Thursdays in the Queens Head. Although I don't think they are playing D&D at the moment they do play other role playing games SCI-FI/Cyberpunk sort of games. I'd suggest you contact the guy who organises it (John) who has replied on this thread previously (under ROTTOK) Martin
  2. I will try to cover the various points raised. The Old Queens Head group - They play on both Wednesdays and Thursdays every week. The cost of the room is £10 total (not per hour) - I don't think I've ever payed more than £1 for the night. Thursdays are a bit full at the moment - don't know about Wednesdays - if you want I'll PM someone a contact number and you can speak direct to them. (Gaming is usually 7:30 till 11:00) Our Group - as The Dark Moomin has said we play on different days usually Monday of Tuesday but sometimes Wednesdays - it depends on the availability of our pub and the players. There is plenty of space to stick a table up in the room we play in if you want. There's no cost but we all eat first at the pub (so they get something out of it). We meet up for tea (us) and dinner (Dark Moomin) at 17:45 and start gaming around 6:30, finishing about 9:45ish. The group has had a chat recently and we would welcome two players - most people in our group started off with no experience in gaming. PM me if you want to try it - maybe to get a bit of experience before running something. Personally I wouldn't try to run a game with less than 4 players - ideally you need 6 to get the full range of character skills. You need people who will commit (at least at first) and that is the hardest thing to find when first starting out. Has the proposed DM any experience? Let me know if you want any info. Last bit of advice is if someone doesn't push it a bit nothing will happen. Martin
  3. It was quite difficult initially to get something going - I think we started with 4 people who had replied and a couple of friends. It's grown a bit since then with others joining who know people from the originals. If a room is all that's stopping you - contact the guys from ROTTOCK (the Old Queen Group) there's usually space in a corner for a few (although bear in mind there are 3 games running on a Thursday at the moment). It costs £10 between the lot of us which amounts to less than a quid each. Good luck getting something going.
  4. Hi I'm the DM running the campaign with Darkmoomin and Leg_Luvva amongst others. Could probably handle one more player if they didn't mind running a NPC/spare character who is currently a bit under used. Two may a bit much - would be willing to give a go as long as they are not rule lawyers and the rest of the group is amenable. I also play in the campaign in the Old Queen on a Thursday night. The D&D game there is quite full but the other game seems to have split into two so there may be some availability. If anyone wants to know more PM me with contact details and I'll pass them on to the guys running the group (ROTTOCK) Martin
  5. Hi Our group is still going strong (just over 2 years) - 8 people currently so we couldn't really accommodate any more players at the moment. However, I also attend (on a Thursday) with a separate club who run several different games on both Wednesday and Thursday - if you want, I will pass on your contact details to the guy in charge to see what games are running and have space. Martin
  6. Hi We have now lost our German Gap Year Student - many thanks for his input over the last few months - as a result, there is a vacancy for anyone interested. The group is still going strong, there are still 6 of us playing at the moment, and to reiterate, we play in a separate room of a city centre pub close to the trams and buses - we start fairly early after some tea (around 6 to 6:30ish and finish before 10 - day tends to be Wednesdays) - so people tend to come straight from work. Anyone interested get either get in touch via PM or on here.
  7. Hi We've now got a group up and running - we are playing a 1st Edition AD&D game set in Greyhawk. The group consists of 6 of us at the moment and we aim to play on a Wednesday evening (generally) - from 6:15ish to 9:45ish We are a mixed group - mixed sex, ages vary 20 to 38, generally fairly inexperienced. We could accommodate another member who is interested in playing (no experience necessary) in about a month's time, and further down the line (I'm aware of how these threads can become active again after being passive for a few months) there'll be a vacancy as one of the members is in a "gap" year and will be leaving these shores. Anyone interested PM me.
  8. Have you seen the other thread (I think last message was about 30/11) - a few of us are having a "get to know" meet up in a Sheffield pub next Tuesday (12th) with the intention of hopefully starting a group - PM me if you want venue details.
  9. It's £21 for 1 hour or £30ish for 2 hours. Lessons are about £25/lesson although you can do fast track 2/3 hour lessons. Be aware it's busy at the moment - we usually go for about 18:30ish or 21:00ish - just watch closing times. Sundays/Monday the ski club are there and Thursday/Friday are freestyle nights. Also they will throw you off the slope if you are a danger to others/can't link turns/control speed etc. - without refund - if in doubt have a level 5 lesson first. It's a fairly short and gentle slope but it keeps the eye in.
  10. I started boarding two years ago and am now an addict. Advice I'd give to your mate is to learn the basics before he goes - my 17yr nephew did this and by the end of his first week abroad with us he was flying down red runs leaving his aging uncle for dead. We also travelled around the ski area extensively. He learnt at Xscape at Castleford. (He had 5 lessons) As a comparison I learnt abroad and felt I wasted the first 3 or 4 days and was restricted to only a few runs. If there's only the two of you, book into an Austria Chalet - we've done this and you tend to end up joining in with others anyway - particularly if you're of a similar standard. I must admit having been to both Austria and France previously I'd go with Austria everytime the people are so much more friendly and hospitable - although they do tend to be lower altitude resorts.
  11. All We're hopefully having a meet up in a Sheffield pub on Tuesday 12th December. PM me if anyone wants to know further details - DarkMoomin, leg_luvva, wyrdfish and harken77 - I'll contact you directly.
  12. The Moog I've sent a couple of PM's to you re forming a group (could be successful this time!!) - could you post on here if you haven't received them Thanks
  13. Thanks for this - I'm afraid I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to computers. I've had a quite look and it looks like it'd be a cracking development if it comes off - Having an area for snowball fights though!!!
  14. I was at Xscape last night and was chatting to some boarders who thought a new snow slope was planned for Sheffield which would be much bigger than the one at Castleford but they were a bit short on details. Does anyone know anything more?
  15. I might be interested in the figures depending on what they are and how much - can't PM yet as I haven't got to 10posts yet. Dark Moomin - I have received your message.
