  1. Link to Sheffield article listing possibly affected schools And a more general post on the change in country-wide policy on the Building Schools for the Future programme Would be interested to hear forum users' views on this :-)
  2. HMV in Parkgate (Rotherham) has them - managed to nab one last week after trying for ages!
  3. http://www.numu.org.uk/highstorrs Please do feel free to have a listen to some of the other stuff on our section of the site - there are some really talented students uploading stuff - 'Another Lonely Day' on the front page is one of my favourites!
  4. I realise that this particular piece isn't to everybody's taste, it's pretty far-out. It is just very close to getting the to top spot on the whole site, and my intention was to drum up a little support and hopefully get this student to the top. There is a lot more 'traditionally' musical stuff on our section of the site, from student performances of Reich, to folk music, to student singer-songwriters
  5. A kid at the school I'm involved with (High Storrs) has made a pretty cool electronic piece, and if he gets enough listens he's set to win a prize for it (for both himself and the school) on a education music website! if you could take the time to visit the link below and listen to the track '1234', it would be a great help - it would be great to see an inventive electronic piece like this beat the recordings of kids singing Lloyd Webber songs to the top for Christmas! The middle bit (involving a caravan) is particularly fun http://www.numu.org.uk/artist.asp?lngUserID=11464 (1234 is the track in question) Thanks, guys
  6. Chumley - we plan to, if this goes well. There's ring-fenced money for 'gifted and talented' children, which is used to fund extra stuff for them.
  7. Hey Just wondering if anybody knows of somebody who does DJ workshops? My school is eager to do some after school activities to engage underachieving boys, and I reckon something like that would be perfect! It'd need to be somebody with experience of doing workshops with young people. Thanks
  8. Hithere! I'm desperately after some cheap beanbags (party seating!) - has anybody seen any about in town/online? Thanks
  9. Highway code says : "90: Flashing headlights. Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there. " (http://www.highwaycode.gov.uk/07.htm#90) As does Roadcraft (Police drivers manual) Also, from the Telegraph (2004) "A pensioner who warned motorists of a police speed trap was convicted of wilfully obstructing a constable in the execution of his duty, banned from driving and ordered to pay £364 costs yesterday. Stuart Harding, 71, was attempting to slow motorists down as they approached a Sunday morning car boot sale where many people were crossing the road." (more at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/06/03/ncam03.xml&sSheet=/portal/2004/06/03/ixportal.html)
  10. I read once somewhere that by flashing your lights to warn other motorists of a speed trap, you could get arrested for obstructing police (although hideously unlikely!) .. not sure if it's true!
  11. Damn annoying! Also, I wish they'd widen that road and properly give it the two lanes it deserves down by the roundabout!
  12. Hooray for Costco! Although the novelty will probably wear off after a few visits
