  1. I'm just reading Michael Redgrave's biography and came across the fact that as a young child, the future actor lived in Sheffield. But does anyone know where?

The book says that his mum Daisy took him to live with her 'sister' May, now married and living in Sheffield. This seems to be for about a year until he was 15 months old. He spent further periods of time with his Aunt May during his childhood years.

I don't have much information but does anybody else know whereabouts in Sheffield.

I'm interested in the research because of two films that he subsequently appeared in which are featured on my website http://www.chartersandcaldicott.co.uk

He was born in Bristol but you mention somebodys Sister, did you mean his sister or his Mothers...

His only living Sister is Vanessa who does not live in Sheffield, his Mothers sister would be very long gone...I'm confused..

The nearest link to him living in Sheffield is that his Aunt Dolly Elsworthy may have lived in Sheffield and she was the Sister of Roy Elsworthy who was Michael Redgraves Father.

  2. Been great to read this thread again, It got me thinking that you see a modern act today and there forgetable after plus you only see them at the Arena now which is also forgetable.

All the bands mentioned on here are known to us 60s pop fans but most aren't big names....I was to young to see the Esquire and really feel I've missed out on some great concerts..The bonus to that though if I had I would be over 65 now, there is a good side afterall.

  3. Indeed he did.

In fact, I remember seeing the wall poster in the club coffee bar advertising the gig, and Mr.Hendrix was that 'unknown' at the time, it did actually use the name 'Jimmy'.

It must've been his early days in the UK, but followed his (first?) TV appearance on 'Ready Steady Go' playing 'Hey Joe'.

    God...that was some eye-opener!

Hendrix the God of Rock...Joplin the Godess of Rock all derserve there names legends....My mate played on the same bill as Edwin Starr ...Did'nt the Stones and Beatles play there to..Would love to get a copy of the book about the MoJo

  4. The Masters reminded me a tad of the Olympics. If you recall, Yorkshire proudly boasted that its athletes would - on their own - have been twelfth in the medal table. Well, Sheffield (or at least its 'metropolitan borough') featured three of the top seven players of the tournament, more than any other entire country on earth.

Remarkable. And yet this city still doesn't have the balls to call itself the City of Golf, let alone the City of Sport.

Yes I agree but Sheffield should have a world class golf course as we know all the best local golfer's traiin at Carlton-In-Lindrick

  5. A friend of mine is thinking of giving is flat up and living in his motor home on his mates firm he works fulltime No one works in his block and drinking all night cant get any sleep I said you freeze in winter would you agree with me :)

I don't thimk he would be alone living permanently in a motor home, I would guess it's no different than living in a narrow boat, just make sure you have a good supply of gas for the heater

  6. But there isn't a junction where we are speaking of! Those cars coming uphill have right of way

News to me that going up Hagg Hill is a right of way at the top but I usually go up in the dark so ain't noticed the signs..However its the worse place to have to stop on that junction mine being a small car it has trouble setting off on that steep right turn.

Though now I realise its a right of way it's still a dodgy junction and risky

  7. At the risk of derailing the thread, cyclists have as much right to use the roads as anyone else. They're just roads, not hallowed ground.

I commute by bike every weekday. So much better than being sat in a car. I ride in the peaks every Sunday morning, and weekday evenings when the days get longer. I have done for many years, met many friends through training, racing and general riding. I couldn't imagine not being a cyclist.

I'm the same, I can't function without cycling I just luv being fit, active and riding alone or with a group. I have a set regime of 26 miles a day in Bradfield covering 8 fantastic climbs, its tough but I always feel the benefit

  8. I cycle down Rowell Lane most days from Loxley Road and I can see the on-coming traffic very clearly as it is higher ground however the stop lines are on the other side from Stannington/Storrs so they should stop and the frequently don't.

Fortunatly I can see them set off so I'm aware of them coming but as I never come from there direction I don't know what view of me they have.

  9. I was reading that around 40.000 peole in the UK die through air pollution mainly caused by the influx of log burners.

It was stated that they have become trendy in today's society which I dis-agree people have bought them because the robbing fuel companies drove many into an alternative because gas and electric is so over priced.

Don't blame the comsumer's of these stove's blame the big 5 fuel companies
