  1. I haven't watched Corrie for 20 years. Recently I've been watching the classic episodes during the week. I only now appreciate the writing and those familiar characters. Eastenders does not have anything like as much laughs from the characters or writing. Maybe it's a London thing. I have no idea what the current episodes of Corrie are like, compared to the classics.

    What do you think?

The Classic Corrie's are really <removed> compared to the modern ones and to be honest I watched one the other week and turned it off.

As for Eastenders I never watch it makes me wanna top myself.

  2. I understand that good cycle lights can be a little dazzling but I ride with blaze lights and don't really help my vision on the road if I point them downwards.

If you see a cycle in front and he is bright then in my view it's done its job and you have seen me, however if you feel it's unsafe to pass him/her then don't pass until your sure.

As for off road Isabell I have not rode my bike off road at night but then worrying about being hit with a car off road would not matter.

The most important thing for me cycling at night is being seen by cars and the second is being able to see pot hole's

That is the law for motorised vehicles not bicycles

  3. His poster was on my wall as a teenager, he was gorgeous.

    RIP

And condolences to those he loved and loved him

:hihi::hihi:David Cassidy and Donny were on most girls walls in the early 70s.

I liked him personally but his fame was brief but still he is remembered to this day by us late 50 year old's

  4. The cycle lights that bother me are the super bright flashing ones that are pointed straight forward and not even pointed towards the ground in front of them.

My cycle lights a quite bright but directed towards the ground so I can see the road in front and not dazzle other road users pretty much like car head lights.

Why would we point our lights to the ground that would be of no use to anyone.

Bright lights are bright for a reason and that is to be seen by road users and not for my benefit to see where I'm going.

Light's have no use as guiders on dark evening for us cyclist's there more for your benefit

  5. A lady who is the financial expert on The BBC morning programme. Don't know her name but she has a very broad Lancashire accent. I don't think anyone dare tell her !:help:

Ah, you mean Sally Bundall, which I'm the opposite I think she she sounds really cool and intelligent. Now the Australian bloke is far more irritating

  6. In the late 70s/80s I trained in an outbuilding next to The Old Harrow pub at Grenoside. The gym was run by Dave Platts, a bodybuilder who won a major competition ( Mr Great Britain ? ). It was like a sauna in summer and an ice box in winter when plenty of layers were needed. The subs were something silly like a pound a week. Later on, the gym was run by two brothers, Keith and John who lived on Parson Cross.

I know Dave from the hillsbrough Leisure centre where he trained but not seen him for yonks. Think he lived in that pub but not sure if it was run by his Son.

I trained at the Gateway gym on the Moor run by Dave Burgess from 89 and over the years trained at Knuttie's gym on West St and the other one West Street workout.

Use to do a bit up at Tony Tom's on Lane Top to.

    All have long since gone

  7. I walk in Loxley bottom occasionally and there are 2 ponds.

One is open to fishing and has been for several years as I have passed it and the other is not but if it's the lower one then there is a health warning around there about asbestos from the old mill and its fenced off next to the foot path, maybe that has something to do with it

  8. Chris "Motorbiking" Spedding was born in Staveley in Derbyshire but lived in Sheffield.

I'm uncertain if Spedding lived here in his professional year's or as a Child but he's not noted as a Sheffielder when it comes to name dropping Sheffield Celebs.

Anyone know where he was brought up

  9. Got to agree I'm not a fan of Alan and Mel show either but Saturday's remains the best day on radio 2.

Sound of the 60s is fantastic and a good start to the day though Tony Blackburn replacement for Brian Matthew is controversial but I prefer TBs style.

Pick of the Pops Paul Gambo great show and Zoe Ball I quite like to a good replacement of Dreary Dermot O Leary.

  10. In reply to the question being asked, I would say yes. Reluctantly.

I say this as both a motorist and a cyclist. It's not always easy to spot cyclists while driving due to road layout, parked vehicles, lots of pedestrians, trees etc so when cycling, I am quite willing to wear something that will make it easier for another Road user to spot me.

And in wearing high-viz, I don't use it as an excuse to ride less cautiously assuming that I will be seen by everyone in plenty of time.

I ride assuming that I'm invisible to everyone.

I drive and I'm a keen cyclist and all cyclist's during daylight hours can be seen.

The problem is that some driver's are so eager to pull out fearing they will have to wait a few seconds longer when a space come's available they don't look for the cyclist just a space in the traffic.

I alway's take very much care on looking for cyclist's even the bad ones because I know the risk's of cycling.

  11. My sad case was rattled by your ignorant post. I was replying to a nonsense claim that most parts of Sheffield are being taped off because of crime. You tried to substantiate this nonsense by the fact that the road outside the station was taped off a week earlier. However this was due to the road surface, not any crime. And it's not as if it would have represented most of Sheffield anyway.

You had no evidence to support the claim and just exposed your ignorance by saying something that was factually incorrect.

    Longley: 1882 crimes.

    Wicker: 499 crimes.

    http://www.thestar.co.uk/revealed-the-crime-figures-for-your-area-of-sheffield-1-8014693

Longley appears to be nearly four times viler.

On serious crime such as knifing's and shooting's Longley has minor crime in comparison.

Have you been up Longley, have you ever seen the roads taped off (NO) because though crime in Longley is no worse that anywhere else in Sheffield it's a much safer place to be that Spital Hill and the Wicker infact anywhere in Town.

Attempted Burglary or get shot, no contest...Town Centre: 15066 crimes. 11.7% increase

Woodhouse: 2122) crimes. 32.8% increase YoY

Woodhouse Mill: 210 crimes. 22.7% increase YoY

the old biddies in woodhouse village have been busy Oo

If your going to scrutinise Crime in Sheffield then do it as the whole City that would be more to the truth

    _______

  12. I think that West Street has seen a bit of gun crime as well in the last few years. It must be an area that everyone avoids at night presumably.

So let's stretch the bandit area from West Street to Spital Hill because most stabbings and gun crime happens in that triangle.

I do agree that for us who don't break the law it's a relatively safe area to walk but it's usually drug related and targeted attacks. Nether the less it's still a vile area
