  1. Hi, I'm wondering where people would recommend I go to get the best (take out/delivery) pizza in Sheffield. It'd have to be near the town centre or heading up to Walkley as that's where I live. The usual pizzas i get are ones called names like 'pepporoni passion' or so on, i like cheese and pepporoni, pinapple can be OK, and so on... don't like mushrooms. Is there any place in Sheffield that people would say makes excellent pizzas? TIA. ------ http://www.law-talk.co.uk - Law Talk
  2. I agree there is a market for this, though I like to think I offer something a bit different from the typical pianist you might find playing. I'm heavily into improvisation, most of what I play is completely improvised, so it does require a certain type of clientele who aren't expecting singalong stuff or whatever... I don't 'reel off the classics' from the 1950s, nor do I have much interest in Norah Jones or the other flavour of the month type people. It usually goes down very well with lots of people coming up to me with questions about the music after their meal or whatever they've been doing (currently playing saturday evenings 7-9 in the showroom resturant for those interested!). I'm going to try and get a CD together which hopefully some people will be interested in having. Where is Ivory's and Boho by the way?
  3. Hi, I'm a pianist looking to find places to play. Whilst I have my own keyboard I only want to play at venues that have their own piano, for various reasons (transport being one). I know the showroom has a piano and I'm already in contact with them, does anyone know of any other resturants, bars, halls etc that have their own piano? Thanks.
  4. I doubt you'd fit in, I think they expect a higher class of human being at these events.
  5. I had a look for a picture thread of posters, but couldn't see an obvious one, so figured I'd start one. Or is this out of place? I'll post my pictures if this is the right place to post them!
  6. Hi, I am a 24 year old male looking for something a bit different to do with my time. I am a very good writer (well, I think so! ) looking for the chance to prove and exercise this in some form. I have a degree in English Literature, and being quite independant, have found 9-5 type jobs tend to get me down. Does anyone know of any Sheffield - or more national - magazines, newspapers, or similar things, that are looking for young writing talent? I don't have much experience in public writing: aside from winning various creative writing/poetry competitions when I was younger, I haven't really broadened that out. Which is why I'm looking to start now I'm also happy to take a voluntary position if the opportunity looks good enough. Thx for reading. Jon
  7. If the job's still open PM me details, I'm interested and in the Walkley area.
  8. I'm trying to aligel! Out of interest, what is a freelance copywriter?
  9. Are there any evening courses that I could sign up on? Like learning a language, or creative writing or something.. I found the shffield university lifelong learnign place but they only do two intakes a year so I can't start doing that until september Anyone know of any other places? Thanks
  10. Hi, I'm a 24 yr old living in Sheffield, I'm pretty sick of shop/sales/office jobs and I'm looking around for slightly different opportunities... the things I'm interested in seem to be the things that are hard to make money from! Anyway I thought I'd post here in case there are some like minded individuals here. I'm creative, independant and intelligent and enjoy using these qualities. I try and write prose/poetry and make music when I get the spark of inspiration (I've been playing the piano since I was 8, as well as having a degree in English Literature): I've played solo piano live around town on occasions, though I had to stop that as most places required me to supply my own keyboard and transport became a real pain. Writing in a magazine or newspaper, or working in the media in some way, would be interesting to me... I'm not that interested in reviewing current gigs or albums as I'm pretty critical of most music coming out and don't think I'd be able to offer much to a reader of said reviews However I am thoughtful and opinion columns are something I think I could do well at. Anyway, that's just an example of something I could enjoy doing... films, TV and (good) music are equally interesting to me (though like I mentioned, my music tastes tend to be toward older bands and not 'new and upcoming' ones), and being involved in there in some way would be something that I would find very interesting. This post is a bit of a ramble, I'm just trying to see what sort of opportunities may be available. Part time or occasional/weekly/monthly work is also something I'm happy to do - it doesn't have to be a 9-5 thing at all (in fact that's the type of job I'm trying to avoid), nor does it have to be highly paid. If the opportunity was there I'd definately consider voluntary work as well. I guess to summarise, I'm primarily looking for something to exercise my creativity, imagination, intelligence/thoughtfulness and independance. Thanks for any replies. - Jon
  11. Hi all, thanks for all the great suggestions. Bole Hill Road is really easy to get to on foot for me so I might go exploring there tommorow (Friday), anyone got any specific places I could head for from there? Jules_B and Hailbut also have interesting suggestions: Jules_B's walk sounds good as it's a round walk circling a valley... what bus, specifically, is the one that goes to hathersage? I'm planning to go 'somewhere' tommorow (haven't completely decided yet). Probably either Jules_B's walk or exploring from Bole Hill Road - any suggestions where I could go from that road? As for safety, I have good walking boots, I'll be getting a map and I'll have a mobile phone with me as well as waterproofs. But I won't be venturing too far away from civilisation so I think I should be fine. Again thanks for your replies, walking in the peaks I imagine is far more interesting exercise than going to the gym.
  12. Ok, so once I get off at Edale... where do I go? As you can see I'm a bit new here Any website that lists decent walks to go on or cycle routes or something? Thanks
  13. Hi, this may come across like a stupid question, but anyway. I'm very interested in going to the peaks for some solo walking, group walking (anyone suggest any groups?), cycling, etc... depending on my mood. But I've never been and I'm wondering how I get there, assuming I don't drive (and I live in Walkley). Is there a train station that I head to, or a tram stop, or a bus that I catch, or...? Also could anyone recommend some populer walks to get me started or places to go? Thanks
  14. http://www.speeddater.co.uk/ There's an event on March the 9th that I'm going to...
  15. Thanks for the replies, I'm now booked in for the March 9th event at Revolution...
