  1. How you mean not cage vs ring argument, its a rules vs rules. Rules are defined from whether it being a cage or ring. I don't really see how wanting to open your own place would link to him not training as hard. The guy had a injured knee before griffin. He made it worse from doing the fight and was forced to have surgery on it , did the rehab and then blew it out again, and yet again did the rehab. So sayin you have to see it that he didnt have to train as hard anymore due to fame and all that I just dont agree with.

Also ring and cage difference isnt just how to cut people off (altho a huge one, cro cop is best in ring which isnt no surprise due to his years of k1) there is loads of factors otherwise there wouldn't be such defined training methods from likes of Coutour on his videos showing how to use the cage as a weapon in your arsenal, as it were.

btw is that you gregg? :P

yes it is..... who are you

and what i ment was mma rules diffine what you can and cant do (kick to the head on ground and so on)

on wether your in the cage or ring...

i agree that you use then differently, trapping in a corner standing or trapping against the fence on the floor

  2. the only difference between cage and ring is how you cut people off, its a lot harder in the cage (as pride fighters coming to the ufc have shown)

you gave rua as an example, well thats not the cage vs ring argument - its a rules vs rules and fame vs training argument. the guy got a rep as the next wanderlei and what did he do....... left chute boxe and set up his own gym.... you got to see it as he thought he didnt have to train as hard any more.....

it was the same with vitor, maybe people start seeing $ signs and not thinking about fighting as the number 1 priority..........

and on a happyer note your right the best place for bjj is the forge..... thank you

Advise and theory from Misa Faixa Rua..... best fight in world

  4. My advice (eventually) would be to try a few standup clubs until you find one you like and do the same with BJJ. Once you have the clubs you want and if you can keep up 4 sessions a week I would train 2 standup and 2 BJJ.

Good luck I hope I have been of some help.

couldnt agree more, try lots of clubs, see which you like...

classes should be about a fiver each and stay away from contracts:loopy:

  5. i can't help with the kung fu side, but in my opinion BJJ is a long term martial art that takes years to get good at.

to stay away from the "my club is better than your club" i'll jut give you the facts about our club:-

we are the only club in sheffield who has a brown belt instructor (a very high grade in BJJ), and offer black belt classes on a regular basis.

we are an official Gracie Barra Jiu Jitsu School

we have a good mix of students at different levels

we offer childrens, adult beginner and adult intermediate classes

we have 6 BJJ classes a week (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun)

we are based at The Forge, a martial arts gym that offers other classes taken by third party instructors:-

Kickboxing by Farhad (AFK) once a week (Tues)

MMA (mixed martial arts) Billy Glossop (Caged steel) 3 times a week (Tues, Thurs, Sat)

    hope that helps,

    gregg
