  1. Today GB Sheffield hosted a class by head instructor Lagarto, with 50 people taking to the mats the Forge was packed, at the end of the day John Goldson received a surprise he was not expecting.

I would like to take this chance to tell you all that John Goldon (TrueBJJ) today received his black belt in bjj from our head instructor Lagarto.

For those of you who did not know a BJJ Black belt is one of the hardest things to achieve in martial arts today, taking on average 10 years to gain.

John has been involved with BJJ since the early days and has forged the way in making BJJ popular, everyone who today trains BJJ in sheffield will have a link to john in some way. Be it directly from training with him or indirectly via your own coaches.

This signifies the highest standards in the sport and philosophy of BJJ. John is only the 3rd Black belt awarded by Lagarto ever, we are very lucky to have a man of his calibre and integrity representing us and the sport today.

From everyone at GB Sheffield and all BJJers i would like to congratulate him on achieving such great things.

Not to leave out the other promotions, Naz, Kyle, lil adam all received blue belts and jake received his orange belt. well done guys.

  2. Im not going to say that Semi contact martial art is for "wimps" as I know of a big name Semi contact world champion who actually killed someone in a street fight with a single punch.

    .

    LOL

to be fair, a drunk could kill with a single punch, its not a real test of your lethality....... its more **** luck.

and as for the vid above, it makes me smile everytime i see it...... cresent kicks love it

  3. thats why i love bjj, you can spar full tilt every day because (unless you get a dick head training with you) you can apply submissions slowly and you can tap out....... its a little harder to tap when your legs turn to jelly and your falling to the floor nose smashed and teeth missing.

i agree with craig, practice/learn then smash

remember fren always must smash, espesh wen passa de gward an aple treeangoo. but esesh wen cloke choke ~~~~~t

plus we dont want to show you all the good stuff, you might not come down and train :-)

what sort of stuff do you think should be in it?

    thanks gregg

we have other videos but these are a little out of date.

  7. The Forge will be closed from the 23rd of December until 4th Jan.

If you want to train over the holidays John has agreed to have two open mat sessions for you to train.

These will be the 28th and 30th, BUT if you wish to attend you must contact john by the 18th of Dec at the latest to tell him.

THESE CLASSES WILL NOT HAPPEN IF PEOPLE DONT SAY THEY WANT THEM.

Thanks and Merry Christmas from all at The Forge

  8. Well its been and gone, and it was a great success.

Thank you all who attended and braved the snow/ ice/ cold and lazyness to attend what has to have been one of the best seminars held in sheffield for a while.

Gazzy was an insparation and showed aspects of BJJ that most people dont see.

After a traditionally hard warm up (no one needed the bucket), Gazzy showed movment drill which then transitioned into submissions and controls.

From all at The Forge we thank her for her knowledge and time, this epic 3.5 hour session could have gone on all day and Gazzy would have stayed to ensure everyone had the details down.

Again thanks and watch this space for future seminars with possibly some of the biggest names in BJJ and grappling.

  9. This is the perfect seminar for everyone, Gazzy is an awesome coach and fighter.

New starters or people thinking about starting BJJ will gain solid techniques and confidence.

BJJ players will gain even more and develop their game to new levels.

Ladies (and gents) this is your chance to train with one of the best female grapplers in the world.

Please support BJJ in the North.

    Thanks Gregg

ps Please contact John Goldson in advance as numbers are limited

  10. From any point of view but especially from a SD point of view I would say that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is one of the best martial arts for women to learn. As effective as striking arts can be for SD, some of the more serious attacks made on women are more likely to take place on the ground so it's important to be able to properly defend yourself from such positions.

Training BJJ (or any other grappling-based art for that matter) is also a good way to build up your mental strength for dealing with attacks. I would say that the more comfortable you can get rolling and sparring in close-quarter situations, the more confident you will be if you are ever faced with an attacker.

There are quite a few BJJ clubs in Sheffield so it's worth taking the time to visit each of them to find the "right" club for you. I train at Sheffield Martial Arts Centre (you can find our class details here: http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=638993) and I personally think it is a great place to train!

Hope to see you training soon :)

well said, and congats on you blue
