  1. Hi Ghozer, I've sent you a PM, I'll be in all day! Cheers, Karl Haven't had any luck yet so if anyone can help, please let me know. Cheers.
  2. Hi, I just got back from overseas and my parents PC has been playing up. I'm pretty much certain its the graphics card but I don't have a spare to test this. I was hoping there might be someone in the Heeley area that could lend me one for a short time so I can see what happens if I swap it out for one I know is working. Many thanks, Karl
  3. Hi Holymoses, This is a long shot I know but have you considered selling your S9600? I just had mine stolen and am looking for a replacement, I really loved that camera but can't afford a brand new one. They're also impossible to find here in South Africa! (Don't ask about insurance, I'll only get more annoyed with myself...) But to stay on topic: If I can't track down an S9600, what bridge cameras would people recommend? My budget is relatively restricted to 100-150. Manual zoom and focus were one of my favourite features of the S9600. I'm mostly trying to photograph wildlife but not in a serious enough manner to require a full on SLR. However, a good zoom range has proven invaluable so far. Many thanks, Karl edit: Holymoses, you are a star! Thanks for the PM :-D
  4. I have an official wii component cable knocking about somewhere (sold the wii but they didnt want the cable) send me a PM if you're interested.
  5. Suff: Apparently BT have a package with calls to South Africa at 3p per minute, not sure of the details though. We're currently with Sky but have had a few problems, possibly due to the wireless connection though. We, well my parents, will be changing to BT at the end of the month, I'll be the one in South Africa that they'll be calling Karl
  6. Sounds safe enough to me, they said 2 weeks was standard but that it could be quicker, I'm sure they will be able to sort you out! Looking forward to a nice hot christmas? We're planning to spend Christmas and New Year on the beach at Plettenberg Bay which should be fun!
  7. Ouch, thats not good :-( I'm booked in to fly on the 30th, just waiting to get the visa back but should be OK! Have they told you how long it should take to get the visa?
  8. It seems to be mostly sorted now, just waiting on an email. How did it go in London?
  9. Are you using Nvidia settings? If so maybe something in there got reset? I seem to remember having a similar problem a bit ago...
  10. Cheers, I knew i'd read that somewhere on the site. The temporary resident permit page doesn't specify. The whole site is a pain in the ass tbh, have struggled to find information from the start.
  11. Yeah, luckily my doc bent the rules so didn't have to pay for it. Do you know if the £35 charge can be paid as cash?
  12. My deposit was in cash and not a bankers draft, was gutted! And since then the insurance people cancelled my insurance and haven't been able to sort it out since. Getting stressed myself! Make sure you go to the Addo elephant park near Port Elizabeth, my girlfriend raves about it!
  13. Heh, for some reason they refuse to give out any information over the phone to me, went sown to London last week but got sent back as hadn't got everything! Whereabouts are you off to? Cape Town for me! Got a flat with a view of Table mountain and with a swimming pool in the complex! Can't wait! Should leave as soon as the visa comes through, need to finish my thesis first but nearly there...
  14. Hi folks, I'm in the process of applying for a South African visa after getting a job there. I'm going to be working as a research fellow but am having a torrid time trying to sort out the health insurance. As far as South African companies go I'm in the process of asking Protea questions and have been messed around by Ingwe no end, I'm wondering if i should look fir UK based insurance and be done with it. Does anyone know of insurance that would be suitable? STA travel for example? When I went in they weren't certain enough that it would fit the visa requirements for my liking. Has anyone been in this position themselves? edit: I have now spoken to someone at STA who seems more confident, I've asked the people at UCT to check it should be OK so fingers crossed... Cheers! Karl
  15. Hi Folks, First of all I’ll explain my situation: I have a nice, fully furnished studio flat in Meersbrook, valued at 60k recently. With a tenant in until February, £320 pcm rent. The flat is in excellent condition. I’m soon to be moving to South Africa for work but my wage isn’t going to be as high as I was hoping when I initially bought the flat, meaning it is going to be a bit of a burden, just about manageable though. Basically I am considering selling privately or maybe even selling “half” the flat to someone wanting a small investment or something along those lines and then splitting everything 50-50. Of course I would rather keep it so the latter is my preferred option. So what would you suggest? And how would I go about it? Obviously I have till February but I know when I move away it's going to be so much harder to organise Thanks for your time, Karl
