  1. BLOCspace is an up-and-coming gallery in Sheffield city centre that is committed to showing cutting edge contemporary art. We’ve recently received funding from the Arts Council of England to develop an annual programme of exhibitions and events, which will support artists from, or with a connection to, the Yorkshire region. To find out more and keep up to date with our activities, join our mailing list in one of the following ways: - sign up online at http://www.blocspace.co.uk - email [email protected] - leave a message on the BLOC voicemail: 0114 2723155 FORTHCOMING EXHIBITION AND EVENTS AT BLOC… 2 – 17 July RYAN MOSLEY EIGHT YEARS AGO AND BEFORE Private View: Fri 1 July, 7-9pm Artist Talk: Sun 17 July, 2pm Mosley's work attempts to reconstruct the vague and non-physical aspects of modern life. Through the painted scene the familiar and the irreconcilable become integrated in the surface of the work. A snap shot from a film, a book or even a dream become critical signifiers in the artists own enquiry. 30 July – 21 Aug THE LITTLE ARTISTS LICK YOUR SELVES Private View: Fri 29 July, 7-9pm Artist Talk: Sun 21 Aug, 2pm The Little Artists’ launch their new work exclusively at BLOCspace. LICK YOUR SELVES will be a chilled extravaganza, a feeding-frenzy based on Marc Quinn's infamous sculpture 'SELF' (a cast of his head in his own frozen blood). The Little Artists will be flogging fruit-flavour ice lolly versions of this notorious icon of Brit Art, dressed as vendors in their blue and orange uniforms. BLOCassembly A series of evening events that aim to provide a platform for new and experimental work by performance, sound and multi-media artists. The first will take place in July, and others will follow every three months. 2. ooop - and you could also check out the general art site for sheffield for some ideas - it's http://www.artsheffield.org it has contact details for most of the galleries in Sheffield, so worth checking out methinks.
  3. There's BLOC space, a new gallery on Eyre Lane in the city centre. They exhibit cutting edge contemporary art, and you'd have to send your work in the form of a proposal. They've got a website, which is blocspace.co.uk
  4. Can anyone recommend any good driving instructors in Sheffield? I'm learning to drive at the mo and bought a car to practice in. The second time I got in it I drove it into a brick wall and wrote it off. I've had some time off, and am now ready to get back in the saddle. Can anyone recommend a good (and patient) instructor?
  5. How funny is this message strand - what do you all do all day? You silly sausages!
  6. Have you seen the new grafitti on the side of Dulo's bar, near Waitrose on the bottom of London Road. It's been done by Kid Acne and it's ace!
  7. The new student ents building is open to public punters. Pretty good I think - you get all the cheap drinks too. It's in the old National Centre for Popular Music down on Paternoster Row.
