Andy C Â Â 86 #2 Posted November 22, 2004 Dronfield is known for it's rubbish service. If you look at the history of the current station you will see why - Derbyshire County Council paid for the station to be re-opened and the current one was built thanks to their contribution - however they didn't actually pay for a local train service to be laid on, which means there is a nice local station on an Intercity line with no local trains. The entire Dronfield service consists of a few Intercity trains on the Bristol-Newcastle, London-Barnsley and Liverpool-Norwich routes stopping additionally at Dronfield at strategic times. Â Dore station suffers a worse service than it deserves because it is on the end of a rural line (Hope Valley). Â Other local lines don't do so bad: Sheffield-Meadowhall-Chapeltown-Barnsley sees a half hourly service, Sheffield-Meadowhall-Rotherham every 20 mins and Sheffield-Darnall-Woodhouse-Worksop every hour. semerpus   10 #3 Posted November 23, 2004 there's just not the demand for a more reg. service calling at Dronfield. At the most there are 5 people on the Dronf. train in an evening!  Its a catch 22 if there was an hourly service praps more would use it but because theres no demand the service isnt offered.  If there was room for park and ride at Dronfield then maybe that would change.   and as for Dore! thats a joke it's situated bang on a major junction. One things for sure it will NEVER get closed because of the 'type of residents' who live at Dore. The same ones who kicked supertram into touch
 Share this content via...

Dore-Manchester is well used, and is more popular than Dore-Sheffield.  Dore-Sheffield has such untapped potential - Dore station has a sizeable catchment area, and is both faster and cheaper than the 97 bus. Jess   10 #5 Posted November 23, 2004 Dore station had 4 platforms at one time, which meant that people were able to travel from there to Chesterfield and beyond, as well as Manchester. However, there is not much room to park cars for those wishing to commute.
 Share this content via...
Andy C Â Â 86 #6 Posted November 24, 2004 Yes, it's probably time to invest in relieving the car park problems. An overflow car park is required, plus maybe a minibus link Dore village - Dore station - Bradway to connect with trains. Â That said I would prefer investment in improved train services to attract the extra passengers first...
 Share this content via...
