In terms of access to some public sector services, I think the DDA has had some impact. I think when it comes to equal opportunities in the work place it's made little or no difference.

Most organisations consider disability to be about ramps and wheelchair access. Some of the better ones consider 'hearing loops' but on the whole they don't seem to see it as anything more than that.

It is now time to give it teeth by making it a must that each council including parish councils have a Disability officer that is not included into there departments and is not the first to be made finished. Rotherham MBC has not had one for 8 years. Some parish councils have non. Had a recent meeting to which I was told that central reservations are not the right width because they were not made for mobility scooters and wheelchairs (including anyone pushing them). Bike barriers do not have full disable access because they only let certain sizes through.

Limitation of access on public transport for wheelchair and scooter type uses.

No sufficient dropped kerbs.

Cars blocking pavements ( back Simon Hoare bill second reading on 4th by getting your MP to Support it December). This is very low on police priority you have to phone 101.

Tried to get Sarah Champion to become Disabled Champion for South Yorkshire(by e=mail) but request not replied suppose it does not have enough publicity for her.

The pavements are in some cases worse than the roads with a car there are better shock absorbers.

Sloping of pavements across which includes steep driveways(( these can cause scooters can tip over and wheelchairs difficult to control if being propelled by the user.

Insufficient storage at venues for disabled people to store scooters or wheelchairs.

There should be a star system (as with Hotels) to grade access in venues and shops. This would also make the managers think more about disabled and not block ends of isles with boxes selling offers reducing access and turning points into isles.
