HCF2010 Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Tortoise care has changed a lot even in the last 3 or 4 years. We are offering a series of 3 workshops over the year partly as a fundraiser for ourselves and also to try and encourage better care of these often misunderstood reptiles. Tortoise Care Workshops Wildflower & Plant ID for Tortoise Owners Sat 25th April 11am - 1pm A fully qualified tutor will guide tortoise owners through the identification of 20 common wildflowers and plants which can be safely eaten by their pets. The workshop will consist of a classroom session showing examples with an introduction by Helen Smith of The Tortoise Table, and a walk around the Farm site to identify plants 'in the field'. It will also cover dangerous and commonly confused specimens. Includes a handout to take away and an opportunity to buy seeds and plants suitable for your pet. General Tortoise Care Sat 6th June 11am - 1pm Helen Smith from The Tortoise Table will lead this workshop on general care for your tortoise. It will include advice on different tortoise breeds, housing, tort health and well being, common illnesses, where to access help and advice and foods and supplements. Hibernation vs Overwintering Your Tortoise Sat 26th September 11am - 1pm Helen Smith from The Tortoise Table will lead this workshop on the pros and cons of hibernating your tortoise or over wintering them. It's always a hot topic on the tortoise owner's forums come Autumn time whether or not to hibernate tortoises and then which method to use. Helen will give you all the info and show the different ways of hibernating your pet. Tickets are £10 per person per workshop Places must be booked in advance. Tickets can be paid for in person at the Farm, by cheque via the post or online via the Eventbrite links on our website. There is a small admin charge for the online option. Workshops are two hours long. Tortoise care workshops - £25 save £5 if you book all three at the same time. bogwoppit Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Really looking forward to this! The last one regarding weeds and feeding was brill - I think these animals really need all the help they can get as a huge amount of misinformation out there.
AMR67 Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Anyone thinking of buying a tortoise should attend one or all of these sessions. Far too many people buy tortoises thinking they are easy to look after.
