Mexican markets

Recommended Posts

Hi, does anybody know anywhere in Sheffield that sells decent mexican style ingredients? I'm after Ancho chillies, chipotle chillies, adobo tins and tomatillos. Anything along them lines.

I havent seen anywhere in the new markets or in some of the international supermarkets i.e spital hill and london road.

I'd like to know where to get Mexican ingredients as well, proper chillies and such like.

I bought some pasilla, cascabel and ancho chillies from Tesco once in the specialist section. Unfortunately they never seemed to restock them. Must not have been enough demand.

I'm guessing a Mole recipe figures for one of you. I am constantly on the lookout myself for the myriad of chillies required to do it properly, but I think you'll have to resort to mail order or picking that sort of stuff up if you visit London (Wahaca has some decent dishes if you're dining out in London btw).

Amigos when it was at the Urban Choola site sold some bits of Mexican food which may have included tinned tomatillos but not sure if they do the same at the new location.

In related finds, I bought Tamarillos from Morrisons but it is not a constant stock item so you would just have to drop on. Not loads of recipes use them either.

As I've written this it's occurred to me that I should ask Street Food Chef when I am next in there. If anyone is going to use the real deal Mexican ingredients in Sheffield it is them.
