Birds in pet shops

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know any pets hops that specifically sell birds or have a large variety? I really want an African grey parrot, would you have to go to a specific breeder or would a shop have them?

Cheers

There's a page on Facebook called something like South Yorkshire Bird Forum where people buy and sell birds. Seen some parrots for sale on there.

ETA: This is it ...

You really need to think carefully what you motives are for wanting an Afican Grey parrot are.

They live for 40+ years and need constant care and attention. They are very sensitive and prone to mental illness if not cared for correctly. They are not suitable for children and can be quite aggressive towards people they do not know. They can be noisy and destructive. Finally vet bills are extremely high and they need specialist pet insurance.

Finally they must be purchaced with a full DNA test and ensure they are captive bred - at least £700. Wild born birds are illegally imported and will never settle.

Please be careful with this. We looked on the facebook one when we

were searching, we found one and they told us cash when they

delivered it. I said ok, then a few hours before he asked for a

moneygram before delivery- told them where to go and found

out it was a scam running from Nigeria.

Well thank you for your concern. My intentions when buying / raising any pet would be (A) Ensuring they get the love and care they deserve. Any other motives that don't include the previous one, would mean it would be cruel and a waste of time to own such a magnificent bird.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

I have one...Well, he belongs to my husband, and is 16 years old. He hates women, and gets very violent if they approach him, and is TERRIBLY attached to my husband, and gets depressed and rips all his feathers out if he doesn't feel he is getting enough attention, which he seems to require almost 24 hours a day, but can't have. He would get attention from other people, if he would let them give it. My husband has to to feed him from his mouth :gag: and give him little kisses to keep him happy, at which point he makes love to his hand :hihi: Very strange and complex birds, who don't, to be honest, make very good family pets.

My mum had one and it was never tame, extremely vicious it even had hold of one of her cats once! Felt sorry for it really, it obviously wasn't happy in captivity I have no idea where it came from as she sort of acquired it off a friend who no longer wanted it. It just dropped down dead one day.

Upsetting he pulls out his feathers, on the other hand really sounds attached to your husband which is really sweet aha. Heard stress makes them pull out their feathers. Cheers for the info

Id more than likely buy a newborn one with all certification to ensure it isn't wild.
