DT Ralge   10 #6 Posted October 7, 2011 I don't know about the lights on Effingham but a traffic light turning green in your favour as you approach is down to the proximity sensors doing their job - picking you up as you pass through the magnetic field generated by the wires buried in the road's surface at 30, 20 and 10 metres from the lights. These are the parallelogram cuts in the road surface. There's lots of technology working day-in-day-out that many drivers are unaware of (speed loops, MIDAS on motorways ...)
