Advice needed re washing machine

Sometimes my clothes arent getting wet when I run my washing machine and I'd like to know what's happening. This is an intermittent issue and I'm worried that it indicates a more serious problem.

 

Any practical and realistic advice gratefully appreciated.

or not enough water going in before the cycle starts

Could it be a kink in the rubber pipe that feeds the washer? - it could straighten out sometimes when the machine is spinning - so making it intermittent.

Maybe you accidently turned off the water pipe but nudging the tap when you shoved things into the cupboard under the sink?
