Hi

Can anyone suggest a cheap car insurance. I am first time driver age over 30 yrs old with no claim bonus. I looked at different website like : go compare, money supermarket but it look like so expensive over £2000. My car is Ford Fiesta 1.2 reg 1996 so was hoping to be cheaper. Would appriciate any advice.

Howdy,..Med. stu. Sadly, there is no cheap car insurance..as a 'new' driver you will be clobbered.!!.... Do you have anyone (parents ? ) with experience to insure your car and include 'You' as a named driver .. ? I think it's the only way you will get the cost 'lower'.. However, being over 30 should make things easier... Good luck..

Really? That seems very expensive.

In fairness, I've just been on the website of a company I worked for back when I was a student and it was about £1955 fully comp (I assume you've only recently passed) and about £1640 TPFT.

IF you've had your licence longer than a year or have some no claims (I wasn't sure from your OP whether you meant you had some no claims bonus or zero no claims bonus) then it will be cheaper.

If you're new then some policies will give discount for pass+. If not, some companies (ie. admiral) do a multi-car thing, which can work out cheaper if you share accommodation with someone else who has a car and doesn't mind changing - not entirely sure how this policy works for non-family though.

It's a lot for a fiesta. I did a quote with the same insurer on my details (roughly the same, but over ten years driving, employed etc) and it was still about 1055 TPFT but about 800 fully comp. This happens a lot with brokers, so you should look at both. It also turned out to be much the same no matter what car (within reason) I told it I owned.

It's also illegal and could end up with the policy being voided

Don't do this. You can't be the main user of a car if you are the named driver. It's called "fronting" and you run the risk of your insurer not paying out in the event of a claim.

What the hell? Mods, don't just delete posts like that please.

As I said in my last post, I have replied to your PM but I forgot to ask whether you were male or female. Some of the female specialist insurers used to be quite competitive (I'm thinking Diamond and Sheila's Wheels, although there are probably others by now).

Try Quinn insurance' date=' they were miles cheaper than anyone else.[/quote']

AVOID Quinn!!!

Cheap maybe, but if you have the misfortune to need to claim you will never be off the phone in an attempt to correct their incompetance.

Also, they recently were or still are in administration.

I just got my first car insurance (25 years old, just passed) and the cheapest was with Elephant, came out at approx £1200, which was £800 cheaper than nearly all the other quotes I got.
