jemson   10 #1 Posted July 28, 2009 Planning on meeting a friend off the train and doing some daytime drinking. Which one of these villages is the best for a few beers? We`re looking for some decent real ale and ideally be able to watch a bit of cricket in a hospitable hostillery!
 Share this content via...
shoegazer81 Â Â 10 #2 Posted July 30, 2009 Please avoid stocksbridge at all costs- i live in the village next to it so can vouch against it. The pubs are few and far between, scruffy and full of young scruffs. most aren't open in the day anyway. Stick with penistone, its much nicer. You'll be able to get a nice lunch there too
 Share this content via...
jemson   10 #3 Posted July 30, 2009 Thanks. Any particular ones in Penistone?
 Share this content via...
shoegazer81 Â Â 10 #4 Posted July 30, 2009 Never had a night out in penistone so can't really reccomend a specific pub, but drove through it lots of times and it looks like a lovely little village-good mix of modern and quaint and the pubs are all close to each other (unlike stocksbridge!) White Hart always looks pretty busy. Theres also an indian restaurant up there called taste of india which people rave about, though this might not be open in the day. It also has its own train sation with links to sheff and leeds (unlike stocksbridge!) Hell...i'm moving to penistone!
 Share this content via...
jemson   10 #5 Posted July 31, 2009 Sounds just the ticket. Hopefully we`ll find enough open during a week day, and maybe a bit of cricket on tele too before hopping on the train home!
 Share this content via...
