Snook
Link here "Nervous people are more likely to be conservative in nature, and politics, according to a study from the US." I saw this on the news this morning and thought it was quite interesting. I suppose it makes sense when you think about it. The one thing I find quite worrying is that the people who seem to be in favour of less gun control are the ones who are nervy and scare easily! Fareast
Yeah, I suppose this is quite true ; I regard myself as being a bit Right of Centre, and if I lived in the U.K., I'd feel a bit ' nervy ' about walking round the streets after 7.p.m., especially in certain areas and especially if I was a vulnerable person e.g. a pensioner, a child ....or disabled. I certainly wouldn't sit in my home with a calculator, thinking, " Wow, only one person has been stabbed to death in this area, in the last 6 months ; only one person has been shot and only 10 mugged ! Wow, I feel so safe ! And if I lived in Mexico City, it would be more dangerous than Sheffield ! " No, instead, I would be thinking, " Is it me next to get mugged, robbed, stabbed......etc.... ? " It could be that ' Left-wingers ' have much more faith in bare statistics and that ' Right-wingers ' view the situation as it really affects them. This is a general pattern, after all. Socialists and communists have always believed in the basic goodness of human nature and that it can be changed for the better by love and understanding. Aah ! " Those hooded boys on the corner are probably making their way to church . " Right-wing people are just more realistic. The ironic thing is that a lot of the people who have paid taxes all their lives and behaved decently and are paying for everything in society are precisely the type of people who are very wary or even afraid to use society to its full potential. After all, is there a good reason why we shouldn't ALL be able to go where we wished at any time, as people do in many countries ? Particularly, if YOU have paid for the privelige !
