Sheffield Star Style Change?

Recommended Posts

I know that Star fans are few and far between on this forum, but what do people think of these 'reportage' style front pages they've been doing recently? There was a Police one, and now traffic. I for one am not too bothered about what Sharon from Burngreave's views of the Police are, or even about Barry from Crosspool who travels for 3 hours just to get to work.

Is there no news, or is it a serious dumbing down of our lovely evening rag??

maybe they are trying to copy the style of this forum?

One of the heaviest criticisms levelled at the Star in recent years is that they do not represent their target audience, plus their coverage places too much emphasis on national news.

Following the recent aquisition [2 years ago] of Sheffield Newspapers by Johnson Press I would assume a concerted effort to present themselves as the local paper is once again being made.

The Star has had several changes in ownership in recent years, this certainly hasn't aided the direction of the business, plus, as natural with ownership changes, staff alterations, and most recently changes in Managing Director and production staff will certainly have their impact on the business.

I will add that change is not neccessarily a negative thing.

After that, to answer your question I believe that the opinion of your readers is paramount, and as long as the reporters and editors are relaying the publics information in an interesting manner then certainly its a good thing.
