Fire on the Moor Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Does anyone remember a major fire on the Moor on or around Bonfire Night in the early fifties. This forum is my last hope to decide if it really happened or I dreamed it, as nobody I have spoken to can recall it. What I can see in my mind is crowds of people lining the Moor and a policeman or fireman wheeling out a rail of dresses from Neales Gowns. Someone is saying that a rocket had landed in a pile of tyres behind the shops and started the fire, and that appliances had been sent from Manchester and other places.

I have tried checking newspapers but without a date it is difficult.
