Minimo   59 #1 Posted October 9, 2007 Does anyone remember a major fire on the Moor on or around Bonfire Night in the early fifties. This forum is my last hope to decide if it really happened or I dreamed it, as nobody I have spoken to can recall it. What I can see in my mind is crowds of people lining the Moor and a policeman or fireman wheeling out a rail of dresses from Neales Gowns. Someone is saying that a rocket had landed in a pile of tyres behind the shops and started the fire, and that appliances had been sent from Manchester and other places. Yorkyhells   10 #2 Posted May 6, 2010 Yes there was a fire at the bottom of the Moor it happend on bonfire night about 1953/54 the fire was in what we called the tyre dump at the time i lived at the bottom of London Rd. we left our bonfire to watch that fire it was so much bigger than ours hope this put's your mind at rest.
