Albert had the best juke box in town and the rustiest Durex machine in town. A great place -named after Prince Albert I suspect. If Sevenstone takes off there willbe very little left of old Cambridge Street.

Hi Veronica,
There is a seperate thread on the Manor Lodge Discovery Centre.
Duckweed,
There is a medieval pot recovered from Fargate but I do recollect it being on show anywhere.
As regards the castle site- the only archaelogical investigations as such have been carried out in the last years

Thought a Yak was a Russian Aircraft.

Bilge,
I can tell you now that won't happen. The first stage in the proceedings will be the Markets to come down- then some preliminary archaelogical investigations.

HJ,
I think its a difficult place for local talent to flourish but then look at Richard Hawley, the AM's. McKee's got on.It has trouble finding an identity and appreciating its medieval roots. The thing about Park Hill makes me smile and shake my head. Still I'm impressed by Devonshire Green. Glad you like us though- and the over whelming majority of students I have met have been brilliant and the city would be lost without them- I look at some of our own- still can't generalise.

Best of look Hayley Jayne,
Do you think its a bit of an owt for nowt city?

Dazzler ,
Isn't that the way we like it? A foot in both camps- its a better city than it was - by a nose.

are we too sentimental or nostagic about the recent past? How many times have you heard people say 'oh I've never been in there? Is this Silicone Valley or Sleepy Hollow?
-
keep the heritage/regeneration themes on the agenda- let's widen it.
how long does it take to get things done? Is there a lack of imagination amongst the movers and shakers? Are we well served by the council and others? By the local media? Can local talent get on in Sheffield ? Regional/ European/World City ? Or biggest village?
Inertia? conservative[small 'c'] Little Mesters? Strength or Achilles Heel?

lets take this a bit further in light of one or two comments .......anyone follow SkyscraperCity and its thread on Sheffield ?
-
Hhm..... I was expecting someone to ask me to explain this one but I seem to have touched a thread [pun intended].I've lived here a long time-never thought about moving anywhere else but errgh ! I suspect its also a personal thing.

Do you find Sheffield a frustrating place to live in at times?
-
There was the Old 12 -now Market Tavern- the one at Norton but where was the one around Orchard St?
-
Good news indeed- incidentally anyone remember when the decline in the fortunes of Shepherds Wheel began? About the same time as Abbeydale Works?

surely adequate crossing facilities are vital towards the success of Park Hill? What will happen to the grotty one?
