  1. Big jack Charlton 80 today , great manager for Wednesday and the man who prevented us bringing shame on our city by avoiding falling into the 4th division.:)possibly did more for us than any other manager.

    Totally 100% agree Gazza!

My favourite manager of them all.

So he was only in his early 40's when he took us over...He looked old even back then! :hihi:

  2. I quite like Rotherham, always have. Nothing offensive about them, apart from it seems the majority of their fans hating Wednesday

Anyway, the distasteful Steve Evans is a thorn in their side, and whether they stay up or go down, hopefully that lump of a man will be removed from his job.

Thinking on, where did he come from anyway? Who is he?

  3. I very rarely listen to P&G but did for a while before the presenter (Rob Staton is it?) said he didn't like callers ringing in calling for the manager to be sacked etc etc. So as the opening post says, unless you agree with their opinion it doesn't gain favour with the presenter. State run radio!

Also, something that has always annoyed me on P&G.

Someone will ring in saying this player played well, that player had a nightmare, then they'll ask them if they've been to the game...comes back the answer "No, i listened to it on't radio!" Well, sorry, but unless you've actually SEEN the game, you can't really have a valid view of what happened. Afterall, you wouldn't critique a restaurant if you hadn't eaten there!

  4. Well, my Dad said that he thinks he could still get a game at 76 after watching that! 5 home wins and 15 home goals is a travesty of a season at Hillsborough. No pulling punches with me as you know...it was utter garbage and i'm hoping the majority of that squad never pull on a blue and white shirt ever again!

Oh, and season ticket prices jumped through the roof now too, i wonder how much match day tickets will be?

  5. Looking forward to the match Saturday. Always do but this Saturday my old fella will be with me again. He's been a Wednesdayite since his first game back in the 40's. He was a talented right back himself and signed as an apprentice in the late 50's but never made it as a full time pro as he was battling with the likes of Peter Johnson and Don Megson at the time (I dare say he'd have got a game or two these days lol). He took me to my first game in 1975, he's travelled all over but the older he gets, the less mobile, and winter games are a no-no lol. He's struggled with his knees these past couple of years but recent surgery has given him a new lease of life and he will take up his rightful place on the Kop once again tomorrow! The one thing you never lose at any age is that passion for your club, whatever division, however good or bad things are, a good or bad result can either make or break your week. What you do learn is to accept who you are born to support, it's in the blood, especially if you're a Sheffielder, blue or red! No trophy hunters around these parts! ;) UTO!

  6. I can openly say that Roeder coming in to Sheffield United as director of football wouldn't inspire me in the slightest. I never really rated him as a manager and I think his record on paper reflects an average manager. I honest don't see what he is going to bring to the table for you lot over what your head coach is already doing.

As for Pearson this signing is a clever one by your new owner. You have brought in a man who has a very shrewd brain when it comes to footballing business and I think if anything you have brought in bags of knowledge and a safe pair of hands when it comes to running the club. I think he will move things in the right direction and I think he has the prowess to broker a few deals for players for you.

Absolutely agree with you regarding Glenn Roeder!

  7. Ya got that right! Grumpy!!! :hihi:

Just having one of my rare visits here these days and wanted to say that you are well thought of on both sides of the blue and red of this site.

Keep going fella, when your lot get promoted things will be much more fun on here next season! ;)

    Take it easy!

  8. This week 23 years ago the Owls beat Man City 2-0 in front of over 32,000 .

Hirst and Worthington scored the goals.

Wed finished in third place in the original division one now called somat else.

Mean while over in Liverpool the Blades beat Everton 2-0 Bryson and Cork being the goal scorers this match only drew 18,000 supporters ,the blades finished ninth that year.

    How times have changed eh!

By the way Leeds won the league that year so Yorkshire Togga was at the for front.

    I remember it well!

I also remember Man City centre half Michael Vonk saying Hirsty was the best centre forward he'd ever played against

  10. The height of this section was back when Owls & Blades were vying for promotion 3 years ago. The banter then was back and forth, it was a good place to be! Since then it's gone a bit downhill, a lot of Blades who i used to give stick to, get stick from and also have some great convo's about football from both sides have gone. Bladebloke, LADYBIRDS, PaulBlade (r.i.p) all pains in that arses to me, but lads i know i could have also gone and had a good laugh with in the pub! Still some good posters on here, Potlegs, Gazza, CB, Rossy (glad to see you back mate!) Grappler, Longy etc etc...

The best thing that can happen for this section is for the Blades to get promoted, that'll see some good banter coming back! ;)

  11. It looks like Billy is hiding his light - just to let you all know his band is playing at The Genting club on the 16th of May - it's a cracking night, first half of show is an excellent tribute to Spandau Ballet and the second half - well if you stay sat down to it - there's something wrong! It's a special gig this one too I believe its the 10 year anniversary for the band.

Hopefully Billy will post again nearer the time to remind all. I am disappointed I can't go to this one but I will be in the Canary Islands.

I owe you one Laurie...Will miss you shaking your booty ;):hihi: x

  12. I could sit and write twenty names (as I'm sure many more on here could do the same or better) of those who have gotten tired of the constant bitching or the using of the word Banta to cover up lack of footballing knowledge on the section, they just had enough and instead of rectifying matters decided enough was enough.

I can't enter into a discussion because I have been "asked" to give the section a miss after having been reported and banned so often of late.

Big reason Casper doesn't post much these days!

Anyway, how's your good self Corker lad?

  13. Hiya BC hope you are well pal :)

Yes Sir , I mean its 50 years for me and all I have is a couple of promotions and a few FA Cup semi finals and play-off final losses.... Wouldn't change being a Blade for anything in the world but it is a sad state of affairs :hihi:

    All good here fella

I agree, nothing can change our love for the teams that are in our blood!

  14. Happy Birthday Frank ...My old man turns 80 next week and don't think hes seen any success at all but, he still goes to BDBTL when hes back over :)

    You're right CB...

Sad state of affairs for such a big city.

You're Dad almost 80, seen no cup win.

My Dad almost 77, seen one cup win.

One cup win between 2 men with a combined age of 157! :o

  15. Trav I know I am not very well at the moment but I really don't understand this post. You met Mr Chansiri last night? Are you writing in the third person?

I would think it makes sense to revisit the World Cup Stadium options. Whether it is for more seating or not is irrelevant as it would not just have been about increasing seating but about improving the stadium as a whole. Besides which all of us are aware that the crowd increases exponentially with success.

P.S. Whilst he may be talented not really interested in someone with the reputation he has. Why does talent have to bring potential problems?

Good post Potlegs...But i think you might have fried a few brains on here with the word 'expotentially' being bandied around ;):hihi:

  16. Hi all,

    I have a problem regarding a website.

It's a long old story but to try and put it in a nutshell...

I am in a band, our now ex drummer has a brother who builds websites, he asked us if we'd like a website building by him for the band. We said yes, and a site was built. Unfortunately the lads Mum was a bit a control freak, and wanted to take over the running of the band, the poor drummer was stuck in the middle and had no option but to leave. Now, the problem lies with...

We then had to have a new website built but the mother of the drummer etc being vindictive said even though her son was no longer part of the band they were going to leave their website up so that it would compromise our new site.

Now, is there any way we can get their website removed?

They have nothing to do with our band, it has our logo, biogs, pics, info on there, but obviously they won't reply to anyone wanting to book us.

    Thanks in advance, BC

  17. Hey all!

Seasons Greetings to one and all (Owls and Blades alike!)

Sorry not been around much this year, but just too busy with other stuff.

Special thanks to Laurie for dancing her butt off at our gig at the Genting Club in August...Will be appearing there again sometime next year so get your dancing shoes polished girl ;)

    All the very best!
