  1. All accents,dialects and colloquialisms should be nurtured and encouraged, it's our social history, up the Tykes
  2. The most selfish drivers are the ones in flash cars, having taken out srings of horses(quite legally) the ones who are courteous are usually lorry drivers, bikers, van drivers and older drivers. The only problems we had were with younger drivers (male & female), and the Rep type.btw I'm a driver as well.
  3. The River Rother runs through Killamarsh, Beighton, Woodhouse Mill (where the flood barrier is) onto Catcliffe (we all know what happens there) and into the Don. Only just in Sheffield.
  4. I was based at the Moor, next door to BHS, I think it's Greggs now. But I also worked at Angel St and the Hillsborough branch.
  5. Does anyone remember BRW - British Relay, they set up the first cable tv in Sheffield in the late sixties. It ran it's own programmes including a quiz and OB from such as the whitsun parade in High Hazels park. British Relay were taken over in late 1979 by Visionhire, which was when I joined them, and BRW was no more.
  6. :D We always used it when we were going skating, it was like stepping back in time, but it was very clean and smelled gorgeous as you walked up the road.
  7. Reflecting the Industry at the time, Whitby Road School (now Greenlands) had y.Hamptons, r.Ellisons, b.Cravens and green Hadfields, as you can see we were surrounded by steel firms...cough,cough

Hi, yes my Grandad knew Ernest,they'd worked together at some point, we used to follow the parade and Ernest and Lol Fenton raised loads of money for cancer research, We also used to go to the pantomimes at St. Marys Handsworth, and I remember Cilla Black officially opening the Darnall Medical Hall on Fisher lane I think 1971/2:thumbsup:

  10. I don't know if it's any help, but in the dim,dark recess of my minds, I remember a jewellery shop called Lawrence & Swoboda, now i'm just trying to remember where...
