  1. Maybe if you read the full topic you might get a better idea as to what people's views are on this.
  2. WendyJ have you seen the proposed plans? The Tesco is not next door to Morrisons and Laver, it is next door to the new estate. The entrance to the car park comes from the Morrisons / Laver roundabout but the building is at the other end of the green space. Had it been planned next to Laver I think there may have been less cause for alarm.
  3. Dink missed off the huge increase in traffic in the area as being an argument against Tesco. Did you conveniently forget this important part? Too busy mocking the people who may be concerned about the wildlife in the area, a small but relevant point in the argument against Tesco. Also, as Novice keeps trying to point out but you keep ignoring, there is no road at present next to the planned playground. The playground has been approved and is going to be built, Tesco have not even applied for planning permission yet. The point is that Tesco want to build a road which will (by that time) be next to an existing childrens playground, thus making that area more dangerous for the children. I think if Tesco moved to location of the store closer to Laver's rather than right next door to the existing estate (and soon to be) playground then it will be less offensive perhaps.
  4. How do you know there has been a demand for it? Have you got any statistics on how many people have written to Tesco specifically demanding a new store in the Halfway area? How many people have come up to you and said "hey, what we really need in this area is a Tesco"? All that Tesco have done is seen an existing Morrisons in a good location and they want a piece of that pie.
  5. Actually there are a lot of people who have given detailled arguments against the new Tesco and have mentioned many reasons not just the wildlife aspect.
  6. It amuses me how ridiculous and uninformed people on this forum are. Well done mary70
  7. I am not convinced that the link road from Deepwell will be restricted to Bus / Taxi only. I think Tesco only put that to calm people. I think it will be hard to police and could become a rat run at peak times. I am also concerened about the fact it is very close to the planned childrens play area. Kids and traffic don't exactly go well together. I also thought that the older guy answering the questions was rude and arrogant and did not give many helpful answers. He said that the traffic for a 24 hour supermarket would not be as bad as if the area was housing or light industrial! I smell bull on that one. Also, what's to stop them expanding the store in the future and add an extra storey?
  8. So did anyone go to the presentation this evening? Thoughts?
  9. janep1, thank you for your informative post. I tried to call Tesco but they gave me a contact who was apparantly on long term sick on no-one else was answering his extension! I did speak to someone from the council though and it seems Tesco might have quite a lot of hurdles to overcome to justify this location. I'm all for creating jobs in the area but I'm sure there are better places to stick a massive 24 hour Tesco, not right next door to an estate and not on top of green space that has a lot of wildlife.
  10. The issue is that the area doesn't really need another supermarket, if people want choice then there is a Sainsbury's down the road. The area in Clowne and Abbeydale Road, from what I remember, are designated retail areas and have not been shoehorned into an area that is predominantly housing or green space. I'm sure the people whinging and whining as you put it have genuine cause for concern and I'm sure you would feel similar if this was to happen next door to you.
  11. We need to stop this from happening. At the moment it is not even at the planning stage, the council have not received an application and they reckon Tesco will have a difficult time in justifying the location etc. The playground has already been approved and will go ahead as planned. No to Tesco!
  12. I had the pleasure of dining at both the Old Vicarage and The Cricket Inn last weekend and have to say the Cricket Inn was a far more enjoyable experience. The Old Vicarage may have been awarded a Michelin Star but the service was painfully slow. The food was delicious but the experience was tainted by the slow service and the arrogance of some of the staff. The wines were well overpriced, even for a Michelin star restaurant. For me going to a restaurant it's about the whole experience not just the good food that makes the evening. The owner was also very arrogant and a bit up her self to be honest and I felt like she looked down on us. Was our money not as good as other peoples? Went to the cricket inn the day after for lunch and while it is a different type of establishment entirely to the Old Vicarage, the overall experience was much nicer. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was lovely and there was no delay even though they were busy and they had loads of Thornbridge ales on to enjoy. For me the Michelin star just gives owners an excuse to put huge marks ups on the wine and food and make you feel that it is your fault if you don't enjoy waiting hours for it to be served. We mentioned the slow service to one of the staff and he replied "we can only go as fast as the kitchen" which for me is not what good service is.
