Sweet summer child, you believe all that stuff don't you?People did not understand why the signals were there and why they were seemingly held there for no reason that they could see. There is no legal sign that can tell a driver "You are being held here as part of a queue management strategy that will actually smooth your journey, so don't be concerned that you can't see any particular reason why your signals is at red, your journey will overall be smoother for your short wait here"

What most of us have said many, many times is that the goals were wrong, thus the results also were. The re-re-engineering of the junctions and the continuous traffic problems show that the last three projects have failed to deliver. The Council work in similar ways to any large organisation. Projects have a project manager. You and others label the Woodseats scheme a fiasco, but I would like to understand what makes you think that. The project actually delivered everything it set out to do, so what would make you think that anyone should be disciplined or fired for achieving all the project deliverables
You're right, we didn't and don't understand, many of us still disagree with them. Who's right? Whoever wants buses AND normal traffic to not be needlessly held up should be the right person. Fairness, equality and transparency should be pencil pushers' goal. Many people did not like or understand the bus pre-signals and queue management strategies employed. That does not mean that they failed to do what they were expected to, only that people did not understand their purpose. Perhaps that was the Council's failing, that they possibly didn't explain it as well as they might have.
The 'corridor' is quite narrow, two lanes wide in fact, two lanes less than what the road is just before and after Woodseats. I absolutely love the lights at the juction with Abbey Lane, I adore the one way streets preventing people from avoiding Chesterfield Road and I cannot live without the pedestrian crossings that don't change when I want to cross.Woodseats was not just about one set of signals, it delivered many different types of improvements through the area and was part of a much wider corridor based project.
I can't disagree with that, changing management mid-project is never a bad thing. One point that you need to remember is that the project was started under a Labour administration and the Lib Dems never liked it. It is therefore not surprising that they decided to change some aspects of it when they came to power. -
The run way was too short. Companies, such as FlyBe who have an extensive national network, didn't exist then. I can easily see FlyBe or BMI Regional have money making routes out of Sheffield. I fly out of Manchester (because LOL at Doncaster) twice a week to Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the South West. What would you call it then.It was built, nobody used it and it was a financial black hole that had to eventually be bailed out by taxpayers. Its hardly a great success.
Maybe people realised that building it alongside the parkway in a built up area with a tiny runway only allowing hopper aircraft was slightly pointless
Stating that all international flights included a compulsory switchover in Amsterdam was hardly a great selling point.

No on-line form. Shame, wanted to whinge about the "28 day" nearly monthly passes. They have to stop this 28 day malarkey...
The other tickets already exist in the form of the Travelmaster and South Yorkshire Day Tripper. Not much new in there but it was a very pretty website.
To be fair, we've all experienced the services run down First have practice since 1998. Stagecoach are far from perfect but they're cheap, frequent and have nicer buses. The 87 is the best thing that's happened to South-West Sheffield public transport since Andrews/Yorkshire Terrier/Stagecoach pulled out of Totley fifteen years ago; placing First in a monopoly down Abbeydale Road.Cheapskate one operator tickets will still be available. Trouble is they will be of less real value unless you use the PTE's best friends - stagecoach who are set to gain massively from this sham. -
Maths really isn't your strong point is it.

Same problem as when lights don't work now..In your scenario, what happens when the single red lamp is broken? The pedestrian still sees a green man. The driver sees nothing and thinks the signals are all out. Multiple signal heads are provided in the interests of safety -
-
There are two new looking lights on the Post Office side but none on the Abbeydale Road side, aren't they going to take them down?Yep, I went over it when it opened at just after 3am. Finally no more traffic lights -
The 60 limit is, the turning right isn'tIf there's a blind bend where people turn right, then 60 is not a sensible limit. -
Because they're on a bus? Who likes going on a bus? It's not the twenties, buses aren't a noveltyThis is a new thing that i have noticed, every time i drive past a bus i now always have a look and the passengers.EVERYBODY on the bus looks like they have found £1 but lost a Tenner:hihi:
So i was just wondering why people don't smile when they are on the bus??

Any bread that arrives at a shop to be "heated" doesn't deserve being eaten.Have you tried Waitrose? Some of their freshly baked bread is much better than Tesco etc -
Better in Woodhouse than somewhere nice.Hello All,Should the eastern fringe of Woodhouse have to bear the burden of over a third of the potential additional houses for the entire city?
Should our green open spaces be built on because developers dont want to use inner city brownfield sites?
Should the Council renege on its policy of protecting this area from development and jepodise the ongoing community based enviromental improvement programme ?
Should agricultural land be built on when more sustainable greenfield sites are available locally?
Please take time to look at what the Council is proposing for the area either on its website-www.sheffield.gov.uk/sdfconsult or paper copies at the library.A drop-in consultation event will take place at Woodhouse Library on Friday 3rd of February from 10- 12.30 and 1.30 - 7.30.
Dont let apathy rule, let your views be known (before 27 th of February) its your land and its your Council.
Thankyou shebba

That would make it bang in between owl and all. There is twang in there, it's not a plain all.Pronounce owl as you do in bowl, then er-ton.Which is quite similar to the "Oh-lerton" theory.
Never heard oll-ler bar, it's owl-er-bar

I posted that because I have. (with ............)There speaks someone who's never done the A30 on a Saturday morning in July....FYI the A39 roundabout is when the A30 dual carriageway ends, after that it's 2 or 3 lanes until Penzance

Especially since air South West has stopped the service in November following the closure of Plymouth Airport, a scheduled stop on the flight to Dublin (Manchester-Plymouth-Newquay-Dublin).My sister is currently travelling to and from Cornwall every other week, and has started flying from Manchester Airport to Newquay Airport quite regularly. She has even found it to be cheaper that the train in some cases.EDIT: I stand corrected, FlyBe took over the flight with no stops at Plymouth.
Not too much of a problem until you reach the A39 Truro roundaboutThat's 77mph all the way there. Unless you're talking about just crossing the border into Cornwall in which case it's 73.75 mph. I'd like to see anyone try those speeds on the A30. -
If they paid rent or purchased yes, they would be congratulated. The consequences of using a fine building which has been empty for ages? they should be congratulated.. -
It's a Hilton, you know what to expect.
It's in the sticks though, might as well stay in town.

Someone please think of the childrenHow can you possibly say that these are 'mildly offensive'?. they include the strongest swear words available. The shop should have a '18' only sign on the door. I'm no prude but children should not be subjected to this. -
Stunning building looking at the photosSo that would be at:It would I agree be a shame to lose such a building when it could be converted for another use.

There's CCTV on Farm Bridge and Queens Road is jammed every morning. With CCTV, they should be aware. They haven't got any CCTV coverage in that area, so will not be aware. -
The bit of grass along the railway line, under the viaduct has never been built upon. How can a green area be regenerated? They need an access road to open up the redevelopment area and a way of reducing the congestion at J34 to enable redevelopment of the sites to take place without locking the whole place up. Sounds like regeneration to meWhat you mean is, a road's being built to bypass the annoying roundabout at junction 34S. Benefits of that when there's a railway line with a train every blue moon and could be used to transport the dissolute population from Rotherham (those with eyes in history books will note the irony in my comment).

There's a business directory. If you don't use it, I sure will be reporting you

If you managed to fit your car in the left lane (slow lane as you call it) it means you should have probably in that lane in the first place. At around 5.45 pm tonight , you pulled straight in front of me from the slow and into the fast lane regardless of the fact I had no where to go or that I was in fast flowing traffic so couldn't slow down easily. Then as I changed to the slow lane to get off at handsworth you obviously assumed I was undertaking and so proceeded to try to shove me off the road by changing lanes right next to me . I had to drive on the white border lines . I am a strong character and will not let you intimidate me but one day you may kill someone , you foolish man !! -
What can we aviod? There are no alternative routes in Sheffield, just routes with lights and others with bollards. The point of the signs is that a better informed driver is able to make informed choices and aviod any potential delays. That's how the signs contribute to cutting congestion -
