  1. I'm not sure if this link has already been posted but if not would anyone care to sign it? http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/52437
  2. Thanks again everyone. Cyclone - when you say is was your neice's parents' fault that she was scared of dogs do you mind me asking how. I'm curious as this is something the woman accused me off. ---------- Post added 08-08-2013 at 22:49 ---------- Medusa - thanks but I can't see it happening any time soon. I think it's going to be hard to get my son near any dogs unfortunately. My neighbours have a lovely dog. My oldest and myself were stroking it a few weeks ago but I couldn't get my youngest to come over to it. It's an old dog and just stood there while we stroked it. It was so calm. ---------- Post added 08-08-2013 at 22:51 ---------- My youngest is 8 btw.
  3. Thanks everyone. I didn't see what I could have done differently but wondered if I shouldn't have shouted at the dog but to be honest I'm fed up of people who think it's OK for their dogs to go up to my son and then think saying that it's OK the dog won't hurt him while he's stood there obviously frightened makes it OK. If anyone has any ideas how to help him overcome his fear of dogs it would be much appreciated. My oldest would love a dog and I did think maybe if we got a very small cuddly puppy my son might overcome his fear. But seems mean to bring something into the house that scares him.
  4. I thought I'd ask on here about an encounter I had with a dog owner in a park yesterday. I took my 2 sons to the park but when we got there there was a woman with a child using the playarea. She had 2 dogs with her who were running all over the play area. My youngest son is scared of dogs so we stayed a distance away kicking a ball to each other. The woman then started to leave. As she walked away in the opposite direction to us one of her dogs took off across the field straight towards my youngest. He ran away, I moved in front of him and shouted 'no' at the dog in my barbara woodhouse voice while sort of shoo ing it away with my hands. The woman came racing over and started shouting and swearing at me that it wouldn't hurt anyone, I was upsetting it by shouting. I shouted back that it was upsetting my son and to get control of it. According to her the dog wouldn't hurt anyone so my son shouldn't be scared and that if he was scared I'd made him scared. I pointed out that my older son isn't scared of dogs so how exactly had I made one scared and not the other. She just swore at me more. I asked her a few times to watch her language as there were children here (mine and the girl with her) but that just made her worse by telling me to eff off and pee off. Eventually she went after telling me I was a fat cow as few times. At one point she was right in my face and for a second thought she was going to punch me. I should mention that the dog looked young but was about the same size as a small dog. Not that we could tell this as it belted across the field towards us. We left then as my children were a bit tearful after all this. What I thought was sad though was that the girl that was with the woman didn't seem at all bothered about the argument. So, was I in the wrong? Or could I have handled this differently? It wasn't possible to talk with her because as soon as she came over she started shouting so I had to shout to be heard.
  5. Thanks everyone. Will start hunting!
  6. After years of being a full time parent I'm looking for paid work but don'[t know where to start. So was hoping someone could answer some questions for me/give any advice. So: Can I use the job centre even though I'm not claiming any unemployment benefits? Does anyone know of any websites for job searching. Thanks
  7. My 9 year old son is obsessed with magic tricks at the moment and I wanted to find a magician to teach him some tricks so if anyone has any info it would be much appreciated. It's his birthday in April so wanted to do it for a present for him. Thanks
  8. Great. Was just concerned at their website said no parking for students. Thanks Julie
  9. I'm starting an evening course at Norton college tonight and wondered if anyone could give me any advice on where to park as I don't know the area at all. THanks Julie
  10. For anyone interested my pool is now up and filled. Megalithic very kindly came over on Saturday and Sunday and did a brilliant job of digging out the garden to make it level. Unfortunately it took him a lot longer than first thought due to a very thin layer of topsoil underneath which was rubble which wasn't easy to get out. So just want to say another big thankyou to Megalithic for his hard work.
  11. That's very kind of you and your help would be much appreciated but wouldn't feel right you doing it for free. Am quite happy to pay you. I've pm'd Megalithic to take him up on his offer of having a look and giving me a quote. Many thanks.
  12. Could do but would only get one chance, and could be very boring waiting for the pool to pop!
  13. This was one of the things I thought about. Might get some quotes for it although as the holidays have now started time is running out to get a lot of use out of it!
  14. I'm hoping to counteract this as I've bought 2 umbrellas today at Ikea. Although I expect it'll not affect the weather while it's in the box!
  15. Looking for ideas really. I've just bought a 10ft (30in high) swimming pool (the one with upvc and metal poles around the side) for the kids. I was going to put in on my lawn which slopes a bit (not a lot though). I didn't think it would be much of a problem other than having one side deeper than the other but after reading the instructions it seems that it's not a good idea (duh) as it puts too much strain on one side and could burst!! So does anyone have any ideas? Thought maybe pay someone to dig out a bit of the garden to make it level, or have a base put down. Unfortunately taking it back isn't really an option as already promised would sort it out for the kids for the holidays. Cheers PS Please be gently with me as already feels like a bit of the berk already!
  16. Thanks for those. I'll give them a ring and see if they do cut it.
  17. Hi, Does anyone know if there's anywhere in Sheffield that supplies laminate worktops who would cut them to a specified size and deliver. I want to remove the piece of laminate worktop over a cupboard and replace with a longer piece to create a breakfast bar. Just been to Wickes but they don't cut to size. Many thanks
  18. Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had a loft ladder fitted and could recommend the person/company who did it. Thanks Julie
  19. Hi, Thanks for your replies. Not surprising I haven't heard back from their Account Manager even though it's been over 24 hours. Just had another look and the bundle I have is Broadband L and phone M and also looks at their terms and conditions as she said that it where it shows this line rental charge thingy she was on about. Needless to say nothing about it. The only thing I did find that could mean something is this: "To get bundle discount applied for 3 months to you must take a bundle containing either Broadband L, XL or XXL with a phone line. A discount of £8.50/month will be applied with a Broadband L " I wonder if the bit about 'with a phone line' is what she's on about. I've found a contact us form on their website so I've asked them why I been charged too much. Will update when (if?) I hear from them. Cheers
  20. I wonder if anyone can clarify this for me. I signed up on Media Media last month through their website. The cost shown on the site was: What you'll pay Monthly cost Your bundle £5.00 Virgin phone line £12.99 Your extras FREE Total £17.99 £17.99 for the first 3 months £26.49 after that Now I've just got the bill and their charging me £26.49. I've just phoned the call centre and she says this is correct as I'm getting a discount because I'm not paying for the line rental of £12.99 and that after the 3 months I'll be paying the £26.49 plus £12.99. When I queried this line rental she told me it was a government thing that I have to pay. I'm totally confused here - can anyone help. She's getting the account manager to phone me back so any help would be appreciated before he calls. Edited to add: I've got cable to my house so I'm assuming that they both use cable (telephone and Broadband) Thanks
  21. Thanks for your replies. It seems then that's it's not checked routinely but when there might be a problem. Oh well never mind although with mine being the commonest (O positive) it's quite possible that my son's is the same anyway!
  22. Hi, I moved house about 5 weeks ago and didn't pay anything up front. The removals charged £50 an hour and I paid at the end for the hours they'd worked.
  23. Do hospitals check a baby's blood group when they're born? Was watching a soap last week and they knew that the baby which had been swapped wasn't the same one that the woman gave birth to because his blood group was different. I didn't think they did but my youngest is 6 so things could have changed since then. Just wondering really as my son (who's 9) is interested in what his blood group is.
  24. Hi, I've just read his autobiography and found it very funny. Did get the impression though that he's not too keen on Peter Kay anymore though.
