Auction_Gall   15 #1 Posted June 11, 2019 We recently had a consignment of local postcards come in, which are due to go through our Specialist Sheffield Postcards Auction on Thursday 12th September 2019, which may be of interest to some of you.  Part of a collection of postcards showing 'The Great Fire of Heeley, Sheffield in 1921  On 23rd April 1921 all but the forges at the Sheafbank Works were destroyed by Sheffield’s largest peacetime fire which resulted in £100,000 of damage. The fire is said to have been caused by sparks from a passing railway engine igniting the roof of the wood store and machine shops. Despite the disaster, the company was so firmly established that it managed to rebuild the Works and to survive a slump in trade during the 1920s and 1930s.  Hover to zoom
 Share this content via...
