14.04.13 - Sheffield Forum 1-1 Chaucer Social Club

Recommended Posts

Sheffield Forum had to settle for a point as they were held by Chaucer Social Club. Changes were forced upon as 3 of the back 4 against Wyvern were unavailable so Joe Appleby and Nathan Jenkins came in along with a full debut for Aaron Whiteley. Daniel Sheedy was back in the starting line up alongside Shane Middlebrook.

For the first time in a long time it was a nice morning up on Herdings Park spoilt only by the wind and a bright start was made by Sheffield Forum. Liam Wales cleverly flicked the ball past his marker just past half way and ran in on goal. He slotted home to put Forum 1 up with only 2 minutes on the clock.

It was to be a scrappy game and Chaucer failed to really create anything due to the wind as keeper Adam Smith mopped the majority of balls up with ease. Forum meanwhile, kicking into the wind struggled still to get their game going but performed better than 3 days earlier. Wales was lively down the wings but despite a few attempts on goal, nothing caused danger for Chaucer. Jason Bowden and Aaron Whiteley, playing together for the first time were having a great game together at the back.

Beginning of the second half saw Chaucer come back with intent and swiftly lashed a shot which skimmed the cross bar. Forums legs were tiring pretty quickly but tried hitting Chaucer on the break although when the vital ball was played, Chaucers shout for offside was quickly given much to the frustration of Forums players.

Chaucer did equalise midway through the second half as the ball broke under challenge on the right side of the area. The forward took a touch before firing low into the corner to pull level.

Neither team then really took the advantage as both teams didn't seem to want to leave without a point and the conditions hadn't improved. Shane Middlebrook lashed a shot just wide after a poor clearance from the keeper and Daniel Sheedy lashed a shot just wide whilst Adam Smith pulled off a good save down to his right. Forum were tired come the end of the game, something to work on during the coming few days.

A fair result in the end and an improvement on Thursday evenings game with 2 more to play.
