Psychology work experience help!!

I've been looking for some work experience in Psychology or mental health. I want to study a post grad degree in Clinical Psychology and really need some experience but I am really struggling.

Ask at a care home, the two in the sheffield star at risk of closure obviously deal with dementia patients but you will probably have to fund a crb check.

If you want to get into Clinical Psychology you have a undergraduate degree in psychology right?

 

I work in mental health, albeit nursing not psychology, and the majority of Clin.Psy people I've worked with have generally gained experience as an Assistant Psychologist prior to applying for the doctorate in Clinical Psychology. As I'm sure you know it's extremely competitive and any experience you can get should only help. The NHS jobs website advertises such posts but again, very competitive - http://www.jobs.nhs.uk

 

I've met lots of psychology graduates working as Support Workers within mental health. Not great pay and a lot of hard work but it'd provide some grounding in the area.

 

Assuming you do have a degree in psychology you might try capitalising on some of the contacts you'll have made with people in the field. They might know of someone/somewhere who might be prepared to host you on a voluntary basis.

Yeah I'm doing a psychology degree. Think I'm gonna have to try and get a job with the NHS on the mental health wards, takes forever though, last time I went for a job there the whole process took about 5 months

Go to that "prison" place near queens road I think, I know someone who worked there, with no previous exp, not sure what its called, but its where the "ill" lifers go after their crimes.. Im sure you will get plenty of experience there, my friend worked there, it sounds very interesting if its your thing.
