Where can I find official ratings for dental surgeries?

Recommended Posts

I was talking to an emergency dentist I recently had to visit about where to find a good dentist taking NHS patients (my dentist has retired and closed his practice!!) He mentioned a dental surgery in Sheffield which is taking people on, and also said that this surgery has been rated the best/one of the best in the region through some sort of assessment by region (he was involved with this assessment in some way).

I now have to find a good dental practice outside of Sheffield and wonder if anyone knows what this assessment is, and where I can find the results.

I'll dig out the name of the Sheffield surgery if anyone is looking for a dentist here at the moment:)

Two nhs dentists taking patients on;

City Rd

Hurlfield Rd

I'm registered at one of them and another two too!

I fail to see how anybody cannot find an nhs dentist in Sheffield.

OK - the dentists recommended to me are:

Broadfield Dental

Tel: 0114 255 0772| 6, Broadfield Close, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S8 0XN

As I said, the dentist I spoke to has been involved with the assessment and they apparently are one of, if not the best, practice in a fairly large area (think it covers 2/3 counties)

I am now moving to Chesterfield so will have to find a dentist local to there, but recommending this one to everyone who is looking (and lots of people are at the moment)! If no good dentists nearby, I may even travel to Sheffield.

Still would be good to hear about those ratings - I am aware of the BDA Good Practice scheme, but it's not what my dentist was talking about.

True, there are a few on the NHS website, however if you are registering as a new patient you would have to keep using the same practice, like a GP surgery - can't start going to a different dentist every time, therefore it is important to find one you are happy with, not just go for the first one available only because they are taking on NHS patients.

I have been registered with several surgeries (due to moving) and a couple have been awful, a couple ok, and one was very good. Like any other service, standards do vary - and just as importantly, so does the attitude towards their patients.
