  1. Insofar as the Australia v Scotland game went on Sunday, World Rugby's final decision was lacking one observation; yes, they may have covered all angles when considering Jon Welsh being played onside by Nick Phipps, but did they pay any attention to the fact that Welsh might have moved forward at the time John Hardie conceded the knock-on? Law 11.1(a): A player who is in an offside position is liable to sanction only if the player does one of three things: Interferes with play or, Moves forward, towards the ball or Fails to comply with the 10-Metre Law (Law 11.4) The offside infringement is the more serious of the two, and so awarding Australia a penalty in this case would be right; maybe after the penalty there could still be an advantage playable in Australia's favour for the knock-on. Mr Joubert, you may well be right after all!
  2. As a bus enthusiast, I was horrified to hear about a bus fire in the Manor Park area of Sheffield earlier this evening. Does anyone know what fleet number this was? Hope it wasn't one of the new Streetlites!
  3. DO YOU THINK: YOU NEED TO GET MORE QUALIFICATIONS? YOU WANT TO RE-TRAIN? YOU WASTED YOUR TIME AT SCHOOL? YOU NEED A JOB? I am a student at MaTReC in SHEFFIELD who are a provider of low-cost courses for people in areas where paying fees might be a struggle (16 - 18 year old students can learn for FREE). Although MaTReC is aimed at the Manor and Castle areas of Sheffield, learners from outside this area are very welcome. In fact, at the moment we have enquiries from many parts of the city. I am a Learner Representative at MaTReC, which means that students can discuss anything with me and I can do my best to make sure they are happy to learn with us. We are monitored by the Government regulator OfSteD (Office for Standards in Education), which means our standards have to be high. But I think MaTReC is unique. Learners have noticed how relaxed, friendly and informal the atmosphere is and how comfortable learning is. We offer courses in basic literacy and numeracy; Maths, English; Information and Computer Technology (ICT); Payroll, Bookkeeping, Accounting; Legal Audio Transcription, Medical Audio Transcription. Our funding from the Government's Learning and Skills Council (LSC) is important. That's why we can offer low-cost courses. If we get more learners then we may be able to teach extra subjects. For those who are currently unemployed, MaTReC is running a HELP INTO WORK programme - you DO NOT have to be a learner to engage in this - just call Sarah on (0114) 264 2194. MaTReC is also a charity, which means anyone can help us raise money. Sponsorship is something that we would welcome openly and excitedly; if we can offer local employees recruits with accreditations gained at MaTReC, then perhaps they could consider sponsoring MaTReC on say, an annual basis. So EMPLOYERS, GET IN TOUCH; there could be much to talk about. ALL OF YOU WANTING FURTHER LEARNING, OR HELP INTO WORK, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH: WE ARE AT 304 - 308 PRINCE OF WALES ROAD, SHEFFIELD S2 1FF; TEL: (0114) 264 2194. ENROLMENT DATES FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2009 ARE WEDNESDAY 15 APRIL & THURSDAY 16 APRIL 2009, or just drop in; you can enrol mid-term.
