  1. I was going to buy one of the shared ownership ones, but the information coming from places for people was absolutely rubbish. It took me weeks to extract the price of the 4 beds from them, I put in an application form supplied by them, they decided it was the wrong form, I did the correct one when they sent it to me, it took ages to process and no one got back to me. But this week Reeds Rains at Banner Cross rang me, they had taken over the marketing of the shared ownership properties from Places for People, but by that time we had put a deposit on another house and got a mortgage for it.

  2. I noticed some of the houses on Breeze were to be let to council tenants. They are on this weeks properties for Sheffield Homes. They are to be rented out by Places for People. I have had brushes with Places for People tenants before on another estate and this has put me off. Many were decent folk but there were some people you just wouldnt want to live nearby and these were by no means a minority. Fine if youre just renting, but if you are sinking your life savings and hard earned cash into buying a house, think this over. Find out who will be your neighbours.

  3. That's a good old term 'clammed', although I've heard it slightly different, 'clemmed'. 'Clemmed to deeath'. Also I've heard it used in situations when a person is standing around in a quandry or trying to dodge doing any work, he would be accused of 'standing about like 'clem' or 'looking like clem'.

My mum says "clemmed" and it meant to be starved or hungry.

  4. Ive been looking around here today at one of the Camdens. Has there been any more trouble recently? What is the situation with local kids? Is it one of those things that you see them trespassing in the better weather but not in winter? Any more break ins? Did the neighbourhood watch get established?

Also on the sales front, the plot I was looking at had the carpets included. Apparently the plot price has been reduced too. Is there anything else I can negotiate from Caroline do you think?? She told me about the deposit match but apparently you have to pay it back after 10 years.

  5. If your lounge is 17 ft square approximately, what do you do about carpets? I know carpetright make 5 metre widths but I still dont think thats enough. I didnt want laminate really, but I suppose I would have to.

This is a new house we are looking into buying and I just wondered. The floor is concrete.

  6. Thank you very much Monkwood! I can guess which part of Rawmarsh you come from from your name.

Do you mean get a bus from Rawmarsh to Rotherham, then an X78 from Rotherham to Sheffield City Centre? Does the 69 still go from Rotherham to Sheffield? Why do you need to go to Meadowhall? or do they all go to there now?

Is there a bus directly to Meadowhall from Rawmarsh?

Is the train far from Rotherham Bus station?

There used to be an X90 years ago which was direct from Mexborough through Swinton, Rawmarsh, Rotherham to Sheffield, but I suspect this doesnt exist any longer. Dearneways used to also run through but would only stop in Rawmarsh if you chatted up the driver.

  7. As a tenant, persuading the landlord to do repairs, repeatedly having to phone and ask about them, the landlord not bothering with "minor" repairs or ones that arent an emergency, the bother of quarterly inspections, not being able to change a light fitting without asking permission, worrying how long the let will last if you want a long term home, also paying out "dead money".

  8. This is what the Special Neighbourhood Team from Woodseats Police said:

Thre used to be problems with youths when the youth centre was operating, but it burned down last year and since then there have been no reports of a youth nuisance, it is mainly centred lower down the Valley around Gaunt Road and Newfield Green.

I asked specifically if there were any problems with kids climbing on the garages that are at the end of the gardens on part of Morland Road, and was told that there had been no reports.

I also asked were there any plans to renovate and reopen the youth centre up there, and was advised that I should ask Sheffield Futures about that.

    Anyone got anything to add?

  9. Has anyone any experience of provision for Children with autism in Rotherham?

We currently live in Sheffield, our little boy has today been diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and ADHD amongst other things. We were contemplating a house move and found a rather nice house in Rawmarsh. We have struggled to find a nice house which is large enough for our needs but in a decent area in Sheffield.

The move will be disruptive for the little boy, but I wondered if the Rotherham education services and the Health Services are any better or any worse than those offered in Sheffield?

Ideally I would like to hear from someone who has experienced both, but if not, someone who has experienced Rotherham services.

    Thank you.

  10. We were waiting quite a long time to be rehoused with NC, we had a NC house originally, it was great but too small, I think we got quite a lot of points as we were overcrowded, but they didnt come up with anything in over a year so we rented privately.

However, if you do get a NCHA house, they are a very good housing association. The repairs always used to be of good quality, I had no complaints. Avoid places for people as they are rubbish.
