  1. Hi, Anybody know where I can find the services of a local maths tutor for private tuition? Cheers.
  2. Hi all, Just wondered if anybody knows of any electronic/industrial genre'd summer festivals that are coming up? I fancy going to one, but I do not know what is on the market! Thanks
  3. Hi all, The answer to this Q may seem obvious but for clarification I just wanted to post it and have it officially answered: Me and a pal are thinking of moving into private rented accommodation. I'm a FT student and exempt from council tax. My friend is not a student. Would he qualify for single persons reduction? Cheers.
  4. Hi, Finally bought me sen a bicycle! Partially because the Summer is on it's way and I because I also got really fed up with people coughing/breathing on me during the commute to and from work (oh and the really, really social lot at the back... oh and the winging babies...) but mostly because I don't seem to be going to the gym as often as I used to so thought that health-wise it would be a good move. Anyway, are there any sites at all like those of local Sheffield groups that offer advice/training (I know how to ride a bike, I'm an adult and don't require stabilisers... but there's an "ettiquette", right or wrong?) - that sort of stuff? Cheers, LVS.
  5. Hi all, Just wondered if this is the right way to do it: I've started taking my running a little more seriously so I went and bought a HRM watch yesterday. I've been wanting to work out my "training zones" but to do that you need your resting heart rate. I'm not an athlete. The most activity I get really is walking to town and back, and literally avoiding public transport cos I really dislike it. I wont pay silly prices to sit and listen to mardy kids or stupid noises from pillocks at the back of the bus! But I walk a lot. Often with 2 or 4KG in my ruck sack depending on how I'm feeling. Anyway, woke up this morn and tested my [resting] HR (as it said so in the book, and various articles on the 'net), and it is regsitering as 40bpm. As I type now it's showing up as 46bpm. Is this actually accurate? I have read that only athletes or those with low blood pressures have HR's like that. I'm sure I don't have low blood pressure as I've passed an Army medical just a couple of months ago without any mention of low blood pressure. Also, does anyone know where I can get my HRmax tested? I read that Sheff Hallam Sports Dept can but has anyone been there before for that - do you have to pay, how do you arrange it?
  6. Sheffield City Council? If so, I was wondering what employee benefits you have? I was reading something about "preferential rates" at Sheffield International Venues (SIV) events?
  7. Hi all, There was an article on the 9th in The Sun: "Free uni for students who can live at home." Anyone happen to read it and have any more info? It skirted over "leaked documents" of a Government proposal.
  8. Hi all, I'm a little confused about my starting salary for a job I have been successful with just a fortnight ago. I noted the contracted hours as 15 hours per week for £13,679 per annum. I didn't pay much attention to that initially as A) I want the job for the job itself and B) I assumed that it was referring to that much should I be F/T. However when I got to interview it came to the point of talking salary and I was told that the contract was for 15 hours per week with starting salary of £13,679. I had no questions to ask. The following day I received provisional details (since my references have to be received by the company before being fully successful) stating what I was told at interview: that the starting salary would be £13,679 per annum and 15 hours per week. I'm used to hourly pay and really this is a step-up and I'm quite proud of that. But I need to be clear on this - am I correct in thinking then that for 15 hours work per week I'm going to be on £13,679 per year? I'm a poor bloke lol and if that pay is the case this would be terrific but only fools make assumptions. So am I actually going to be paid the above for that many hours or am I going to be paid for 15 hours of £13,679? Please advise.
  9. Hi all, Next week I am to begin a fixed term employment contract. Recently I have learned that I may have to leave the job and terminate it early. What are my rights in that context? I know my rights in a FTC but only in terms of employee protection, i.e. what the employer can and can't do, but what I don't know is what I can and can't do. Am I "allowed" to terminate the contract? Can the employer refuse to release me from the contract? I haven't a clue how the FTC's work as this would be my first one. Thanks.
  10. Hi all, When I was younger I was mad on cycling. I stopped when I hit 16. I'm 21 and the other day I visited my sister up Oughtibridge. She lives close to Wharncliffe woods so I went for a short stroll with my nephew. Getting to the point: I stopped for a chat with some local lads up there as they were having a breather, or whatever - I was very interested in their bikes. They owned Kona Stinky's. I never got into mountain biking when I was younger, but after a good couple of years, the other day was the 1st time I'd seen a professional MTB and I was very impressed. Plus, I feel that I need to get back into cycling, but this time try my hand at MTB'ing - sort of rekindle my lost hobby, but this time try that style of riding. Does anyone have any tips on where and what to buy in relation to Kona Stinky's as they're very expensive! A guide or introduction would be nice. Due to their price, and as with everything I suppose it's most sensible to do some research before hand! Also, are there any mountain biking groups at all? Thanks in advance.
  11. For those people that have dust allergy, what do you sleep in/on? I've been out all day and only just returned home. I had one of those Piriteze for the hayfever and it works well. But coming to my room, having crashed on my bed for a mo' I've had to leave the room due to immediate itchy eyes and I've been fine all day so rational deduction says I think I'm going to have to ditch my bed, but what's the alternative to the standard mattress?
  12. Hi all, Just wondered if anyone can recommend friendly ABC's around Sheffield with a good reputation for welcoming beginners?
  13. Thank you. I woke up this morning and was frightened to see my eyes had puffed up so bad! I have shut myself in a room, not my bedroom though because it seems that I'm sneezing and fighting irritation there than elsewhere in my house. I've shut all the windows, blah blah, but I think that my room may be dusty? Could be that, or psychological - I dunno, heading to see the GP tomorrow!
  14. Hi all, Just wondered the best cure for hayfever? I've heard of a jab...? Also, do the swollen eyes stay forever or what?
  15. Cheers AJ Sheffield. With the method of paying over the phone, how do they (Vodafone) know which dongle to top up? Surely they need like the number or something of the dongle's SIM?
  16. ...and as for my second question?
  17. Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone else has one of the 3G Top Up and Go mobile broadband sticks? Can you Top Up the modem via Vodafones website as opposed to using the software? L-V-S
  18. I doubt there is but it was a passing thought - Is there a fixed amount of hours the Inland Revenue has set that students can work? LVS
