  2. wondering if anybody can recommend an outdoor venue where we could host a car show. Its a local vw club and theyre wanting to sheffield involved in this scene got to be able too accomodate 200+ cars, toilets, possibly a pub if theyve got big enough grounds, also has to be reasonably cheap being as its the first one. Has any one got any ideas, if so pm me with details, cheers

Try niagra sports ground down on clay wheels lane

  3. I was in Pitsmoor cubs in the sixties when it was based in Roe Lane. I remember there was a guy called Middleton who ran the scouts ( I think he went on to be a bigwig in Barclays Bank and got a knighthood). I remember the Harrisons, Graham particularly, who lived on Roe Lane though it must be nigh on 50 years since I saw them. I'm not sure when they closed down but it was registered with Charity Commission in 1964 and de-registered on 15 February 1992 (ceased to exist).

My mums side of the family where the Harrison's ,lived opposite side of the road from the scout field

graham Harrison is my uncle ,still going strong ! He lives up fox hill

  4. thanks for replying dean... ive been in the dinner hall and felt someone push past me i turned to say sorry thinking it was a child..but no-one there.. i know the school was used as an orphanage (hence the road name) a long time ago and then it was used for injured soldiers... the top school (infants) seems to be worse for goings on...

The orphanage was at the top of orphanage rd on the left where the flats are now ,the school wasn't used has an orphanage.i went to firshill inf & jnrs .lived on roe lane till I was @20 yrs old .not sure about the school being haunted tho

  5. I know what you mean about the shabby looking workers and their sheds on wheels. But hey, get some of their jobs to look at or better still jobs they have in hand. Usual rules, get full written quotes on a company letterhead with legitimate address and a land line number. Full roofline jobs only last a day or two so no need for a stage payment but get a full invoice as per quote and pay by cheque or bank transfer.

Fall for the discount for cash con and you can only sue for the real invoice value. But cash is king and it is surprising how a discount for cash (tax avoidance so no invoice) will lure a customer. It is a gamble what most people will take if it can save money so you reap what you sow.

It is the same with us contractors though. We have to be on our guard against the rogue customer for which their is plenty off. If I have a prospect who's face doesn't fit I price my self out of the job. Life is hard enough without working for low lifes who just don't pay.

Dan & Mal350 has a good reputation on here.

    Thank you
