How do you hold cryptocurrency in a paper wallet?
Here's a YouTube which in the second half shows how to generate a paper wallet (for Litecoin). I tried this out and it was fairly easy to do.
Instead of having the address and private key on paper this could also be in a USB stick. When the USB stick is plugged in it would be a good move to disconnect the computer from the internet.

The speed with which the Earth spins, changes!
I'd be interested in what actually a second is. I imagine it's a 86400th of the average amount of time it takes the Earth to rotate? Which is totally not a precise thing!
AFAIK the rotation of the Earth is slowing down mainly due to the effect of the moon. The Earth is slowing down and the moon is absorbing some of that energy and increasing its orbital distance from the Earth.

Yes, because one thing is sure, man didn't make the universe.
No, but man did make god.

As I get older and realise I can't work forever I have spoken to a few financial advisors, with regards to what to do with the small amount I have saved.
My conclusion (and I know they warn you about ups and downs etc) is that the only loser in the game is the investor. The IFA and fund managers will still get the fee they charge even if they lose all your money. Even with low risk, you may lose out but they still get paid.
Any IFAs want to challenge me on this?
Indeed! I reckon if the end result is losing all your money I feel quite competent of doing that unaided.

Very interesting programme.
But who or what is the final backstop for the currency? with the UK Pound or American Dollar its the UK or American government.
Bitcoin appears to be a sort of IOU system for organised crime where some of the general public have been
suckered in with the promise of get rich quick, a sort of Ponzi or Pyramid scheme for computer addicts.
All you have to do is sit at your computer and between sessions of viewing salacious material, buy a few
bit-coins how easy is that? Are you really that stupid?
You ask about the 'backstop' for the Bitcoin currency then go on to mention the governments of the UK and the US without understanding that you are possibly taking about the two largest perpetrators of organised crime in the world. One of the main hopes for cryptocurrencies is that they will to some degree curtail the activities of these organisations.

Listen (via the i-player) to a salutary programme last night on BBC Radio 4 https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09tdyjz. Don't get fooled again!I think the lesson (for those who hold criptocurrencies) is NOT to hold the major portion of them in online wallets (like Mt. Gox) but rather in either paper wallets or in a hard wallet (like Trezor or Leger Nano) in one's own possession.

I hope you didn't put alot of money in, they're not even the only company trying this.
I didn't put more in than I can afford to lose. But thanks all the same.

This is not a recommendation but just to say that I have recently bought a stack of crypto called THETA TOKENS.
Here's a part of their write-up from their website...
“Theta’s innovation is set to disrupt today’s online video industry much in the same way that the YouTube platform did to traditional video back in 2005,” said Chen. “One of our biggest challenges had been the high costs of delivering video to various parts of the world, and this problem is only getting bigger with HD, 4K and higher quality video streams. I’m excited to be part of the next evolution of the streaming space, helping Theta create a decentralized peer-to-peer network that can offer improved video delivery at lower costs.”- Steve Chen, co-founder of YouTube and adviser to Theta Network
You can look at their performance on...

Methinks with this thread Mel is just stirring the proverbial.

Isn't the purpose of cryptocurrency to hide the identity of the owners? Its all about financial privacy for criminals.
There's no need to use cryptocurrency for that. The Too Big To Fail banks can continue their criminal activity without taking any serious measures to maintain privacy. At most if their malfeasance is brought to the attention of the public the government will merely give the banks a fine of a few millions which to them is equivalent to a slap on the wrist. Remember LIBOR for instance?

Now that the prices of the coins have fallen substantially, in the estimation of many pundits (on YouTube ) the time is now right to dig into your pockets and buy some cryptos. I've got some €s winging their way to Coinbase to do exactly that. Not that I know much about the subject but it seems like the time is right to test the waters.

start with the tabloid press then
In the past the biggest examples of fake information that I can recall was disseminated directly by the government in power.
To mind comes Ted Heath telling us that the EEC vote had nothing to do with a 'United Political Europe'.

seems to be the buzzword from the right lately

Actually it's not. It's already on the way out. But I must profess to being a bit behind the times now and then.

He was generally well-liked in his visit to Switzerland though as to be expected a few snowflake types had their protests.

They wouldn't be fighting over it if they saw what went into that muck. The worst part of the ingredients IMO is the amount of sugar in it.

To be clear, he doesn't 'generate' money at all. He just encourages people to move it around.
People who produce something, they create wealth.
Is that why paying taxes is counterproductive? Moving money from those who are able to create it to those who can only consume it.

You know he's really, really, completely appalling when you look at George W Bush and think - 'That's what a real president should be saying'.
I loathe and despise Trump with every fibre of my being; he is a morally diseased, revoltingly self obsessed and horribly dangerous man.
That said if he does drain the swamp everything will eventually be forgiven.

I have been looking at getting back into dating and meeting ladies since splitting with the wife but found it really hard as I dont really do the drinking and clubbing much anymore and theres no chance in hell at meeting someone at work.
What I really wanted to ask is How many of you lovely Sheffield ladies would consider dating a fat guy and your reasons for or against.
I'm a bloke so not interested, but a question: How many lovely ladies do you want to meet?

who do they sell all this lead to?
It gets sold to companies that melt it down and roll it into sheeting. It is then sold to builders who have to repair roofs that have lost their lead.
-
weird, two or so weeks ago I saw guys steal the lead off the next door neighbours bay window. The house is unoccupied council house. They were gone in 5 mins. I got photos of them. Police arrived 5 minutes later, looked and photos and shot straight off after them.
I wouldn't be suprised if they were they same guys. I live just off Herries road.
Is there any lead on the roof of the police station? Just asking.

in Padders' Bar: General Discussions
Posted
I'm jumping into the discussion without checking everything that has been said here to now.
My comment is this after having seen May on the TV in the Commons last night.
To me it is absolutely clear that she is lying through her back teeth. The experts know absolutely nothing if all they can claim is that the nerve agent was "initially developed" by the Russians.
This is pathetic as is the whole diplomatic fiasco.
