  1. My gradfather worked next to Eric Wragg on West Street, next to the 'old' Saddle pub. We often went in a watched Eric working, he showed us the folding 'hunting' knife he made, it was beautiful and he also showed us the 2 leather bound 'design' books dating back in to the 1800's with detailed sketches of all the knifes he made My gradfather has long since past away but the memories are priceless regards Steve Sadler

  4. Help, I'm after a copy of a book that published in 1970 - 80 looking at the history of the little mesters, I think it was published by the university. it had my grandad in it, George Sadler, who worked in a little workshop above the Old Saddle Inn on West Street, next to Eric Wragg. I had a copy but have lost it and would love to get a copy back so I can show my kids, (they never got to see my grandad) I can't remember the name of it, but hope someone can help cheers Steve Sadler:help:
  5. I'm trying to get hold of a book that was published around 1980's, possibly by the university looking in to the history of the little mesters. My gradad was in this book, I did have a copy but have lost it and would love to get it back. My grandad was George Sadler, worked above the old Saddle pub on West Street, along side Eric Wragg. Can you help ???
  6. George was my grandad and he worked as a little mester in a scruffy workshop above the old Saddle pub on west street, up some thin white washed steps. Next to him worked Eric Wragg, who made hunting knifes and pen knifes, I remember my grandad taking us next door to see Eric, Eric showed us (me and my twin brother) 2 leather bound books with his design drawings in, they must have been 100 years old then !! Fantastic memories of time spent in 6 weeks holidays watching my gradad, polishing, sharpening and fixing real stag handles, fixed using resin and ash from his pot bellied stove. Must have been 200 years worth of dust in those workshops, my mum used to go mad, we'd come back covered !! Happy memories. Steve Sadler:)
