  1. Its a tough one, I want her to be able to come on the sofa for cuddles, and don't think I can bear to put her in a crate (even though we have one) after how much she hated kennels. But short of hiding behind the sofa or night I don't know what else to do.

  2. Aww let her on the sofa!:hihi:

We do, I want her to be able to come on the sofa-when she is invited, which is why I want a blanket that smells so we can move it when we sit on there.

Otherwise, it'll have to be totally no for a long time while she learns she cant sleep on there.

  3. Thanks, I am insanely proud of her, she has gone from ignoring us totally and me not being able to tkae her out alone becuase of how hard she pulled to walking to heel in 2 days!

She is a very clever little dog and I expect many happy years will follow. As a side line, is there anything you can spray on fabrics to discourage dogs. She keeps sneaking onto the sofa while we are in bed. We thought maybe we could get a blanket and spray that with whatever and then leave it on there when we are away from her?

  4. Poppy was spayed about a week before we got her, but they were happy with how it went and she is going back to see the vet for a check and her final jabs on Thursday at the rescue centre.

Anyway, as she has decided our sofa is much comfier than her bed, we have noticed some marks on it. I checked her wound and its clean and dry so thought she might be having a little bladder drippage after the op as I know this can happen and thought we would bide our time (and try and keep her off the sofa) but as I was cleaning it earlier I noticed it is more like a browny mucusy stuff.

Luckily, she is learning to trust us VERY quickly and she happily rolled over and let me have a nosey at her important bits with a bit of kitchen roll, and I realise it can be coming from what I assume is her vulve (my dog anatomy is poor, but my common sense tols me this much).

It isn't bleeding, and we are talking small amounts. Do I need to sorry, or shall I just speak to the vet at the centre on thursday.

p.s. she's 2 and 1/2 and has already had pups if that could affect it

  5. .....Poppy!(and her ears)

We weren't planning on getting the rescue dog quite so soon (we got back from holidays at 2am sat night/sun morning) but OH was pestering by 9am Sunday to go look round Thornberry again and then fell head over heels with this little bundle, who seems to have had a rather rough start with some not so careful kids. Apparently, she was so scared she wouldn't let anyone in her kennel for ages and they were getting to the point of considering having her PTS :(

Luckily, she came round, and although they said they'd keep a kennel op[en for a while just in case, she has settled in like you wouldn't believe (apart from thinking the sofa is better than her bed  ) She met OH's parents dog yesterday at Thornberry, and the pony last night and is not content follwoing me around the house. I even had to leave her this morning as had forgotten I had a hospital appointment, and she was a star-needless to say we phoned to tell them to let the kennel go, she's formally ours from thursday :D

p.s. Lindsey, I wonder if I did meet you yesterday, I'm sure you'd know from this-in any case, hope you like the picture, feel free to forward it to everyone there.

  6. Sufi centre, the sign has gone again now though so I wonder if the sale was money related (as usual) adn they found teh cash to stay there?

I like the mini markets to an extent, but do we need THAT many. And further up my neck of the woods it would be nice to have a bit more variety,as the all stock the same asian cuisine staples, which is fine, but sometimes I just want some HP sauce

  7.

It's an area I feel safe to move about in, like I feel in no other area in Sheffield. I feel no threat, as I travel my way though the area.

The vibrancy, the variety amongst the people who live there is just fabulous.

    )

As for safety, I would have agreed until a few weeks ago when Iw as bopped on the nose, but these things will happen

I've lived here for 2 years now, it was not originally where I wanted to and I intended it to be a short term arrangement, but try and get me to move now.

Whilst I agree, that there is a vast cultural diversity amoungst the people, and I love that the local shops offer much less variety, and whilst its great being able to buy a mouli from a choice of 4 or 5 shops, it would also be nice to be able to buy a potato! :P That not anything the council is repsonible for though-although clamping down again on the mess outside some of teh shops would make a HUGE impact. Equally, offering some sort of start up grants to shops that aren't basic happy shopper selling corner shops might be nice (2 more mini-supermarkets have open on London road in the last month alone).

Its a very conveniently placed area (which thankfully also can't be changed) and I think you'd be hard pushed to find an area with quite as many community based events. (Sharrow festival, the lattern festival, the picnic in the park etc etc.)

Obviously, some people will always take less pride in their area than others, and the warnings about leaving bins out will help to address one part of this, as would some more bins, it seems somewhat disproportionate to the number of take aways and convenience shops (drinks bottles and sweet wrappers).

Personally I also think it will be a hellof a lot better when mount pleasant park is sorted out again. And thinks like the old methodist church at the bottom of vincent road is cleaned up-surely this could be supportred by the council its was a beautiful building.

  8. I originally put this in the pets forum, then realised that people with larger anmals might not see them as pets. Anyone know of any grazing with shlter/stabling or maybe livery yards over in the S7 direction (S8, S11, S17 maybe).

I thought I had sorted out a nice new home for my new pony, but it has fallen through. I am aware of some places, but they dont sompare (big facilities that I don't need enough to merit paying the mega £££s extra for)

    Thanks,

    Vicki

mods-if you feel this is reatition could you close the 'pets' version please.

  9. I've also found that people rarely want to give you lessons on their own horse due to insurance reasons. Pants, innit.

To be honest I think people are also a bit protective of letting people who havent' ridden, or at least not for a while ride their hore that they have spent years working on!

  10. Congratulations Vicki- didn't everyone tell you that the home check wasn't about finding reasons to turn you down?

 but I am a born worrier, and did start bombarding the poor chap with reason why we will be good doggy parents before he was even through the door! :hihi:

  11. My instructor insist that I still have very minor problems. But it doesn't require perfection to pass the test. Maybe I can not be 100% even after 100hours lesson. I have to have a try soon or late and it doesn't cost much, 48 quids, just a 2 hour lesson's fee.

This is where it shows that your instrutor has the experience. Have oyu taken a driving test recently-breath at the wrong time and they fail you!! They will pick you up on ANYTHING they can find, however small.

As an aside, why do you NEED to take your test, is that actually what you mean, or do you mean you need to have another opinion as to whether you are ready or not.
