Mel posted about the source of funding for adverts on non BBC channels , your reply referred to the funding of those adverts and my reply to you did also. Your post I've just quoted is you trying to divert away from where the money comes from to pay for adverts on TV. My question still stands, how is it a red herring?
In a capitalist market place, companies pay a lot to advertise; mel implied that paying to advertise on tv has an adverse effect on consumers by leading to higher prices to cover the cost of the advertising. I am saying that the returns these companies get more than cover the costs of the advertising so no cost is "passed on" to the consumer. What makes it a red herring is the fact that this is the case already despite the BBC's current existence.

That match last night between England and the USA was brilliant from start to finish, really enjoyed it.

No he isn't. There are and should be consequences to expressing those views. For example, he might lose all his friends (more likely he won't, but he might). He might be barred from his local gay bar. He might be kicked off his university course which requires people not to harbour deep and harmful prejudices.
You're trying very hard to trivialise the feelings he did express and draw equivalence with other feelings which aren't related to the career he was training for...
The government should step in and force neutrality in Universities.

How is it a red herring? The money has to come from somewhere and for companies that's their customers.
Are you saying the existence of the BBC is keeping the price of goods down?

And when people complain about the BBC stealing our hard earned readies don't they understand where ad revenue comes from from the other TV stations? It doesn't come free, expensive ads need budgeting for, and higher prices for the goods
The money companies pay to advertise on tv more than pays for itself or they wouldn't do it, so you can throw that red herring back into the sea.

Its clear Boris's intention is to roll back the nanny state in general, not just in this area; this will be catnip to Tory members and will resonate with the wider public too.

£1.09p seems to be the standard rip off price; that's what they're asking for a Turkish Delight in the fuel station at Hillsborough. Forget that.
Edit:
Went to the fuel station at Hillsborough yesterday evening and the Turkish Delights were 99p.
I must correct this for the record

Sigh
The festival goers leave the rubbish yes, but festival workers and volunteers stay behind from today and clean it up.
Like I said, it doesn't get left, unlike what those hyped stories try to make out.
It is the festival goers leaving the rubbish that is the issue; of course the festival workers clear up at the end, but that doesn't excuse the festival goers.
Rinse Your Milk Bottles Before Putting In Brown Bin. Pyoo

My brown bin is about half full of empty plastic milk bottles; due to the hot weather the smell coming from the small amount of milk in the bottom of the bottles is awful.
I think I'm going to empty my brown bin and take the bottles to the local recycling place and remember to rinse the bottles in future.
