  1. It might be more than capital gains tax if trading is involved. That's what I'd like to find more about. I know about Revolut, I use almost all of the banks in that league (Monzo, Starling, N26). For buying, I'd recommend looking at CEX.io as well. They don't charge anything for deposits and offer GBP transfers. I used Coinbase before similar to how you've described, but I'm probably going to switch to CEX.io as they have better fees and are London based. Can't say much about a good time to buy, my guess is as good as anyone's. But looking at the previous two forks, they didn't affect the price going upwards.
  2. Hi Waldo, I'm in the process of doing exactly that. I've heard high street banks don't play too well with cryptocurrencies. There have been incidents of people having their accounts closed for transferring to bitcoin exchanges, or for using credit cards there. Might be a good idea to check that. Also, I'd recommend looking into tax implications beforehand. Different tax applies if you just buy and sit on a cryptocurrency, and if you trade. Here are some things I've found: Cheers!
  3. Hi there! We eventually moved to Handsworth, near the big Asda. Most amenities are close by. Supermarkets (Asda, Aldi, Morrisons), doctor, nurseries and a community park are all walking distance. And it's about 10-15 minutes by car to both meadowhall and crystal peaks, as well as the city center.
  4. Thanks guys! I guess it's not doing the car more harm than fuel consumption and a maybe a bit of power loss. Although I feel the power is back to normal since 2 days. Newhall happens to be close to where I work. Got an appointment for Tuesday. Will see how it goes. Thanks again everyone!
  5. Hey everyone! So it's been over a month since I moved to Sheffield. So far it's been pretty nice. I have a BMW 520d and I got the check engine light a couple of days ago. Ran diagnostics, and it looks like an EGR valve issue (error code P0401). Any recommendations for reliable garages would be appreciated! I would prefer S9 or S13, but other areas may work too as Sheffield isn't too big.
  6. DerbyTup, I like the way you think. The list in my original message was ordered by priority and you'll see that it matches closely with how you've put them. We still have some time before our daughter starts school. That gives us some time to get a feel of the city. bertyboop, thatnks for the info. I did see a couple of houses in Intake, but didn't quite like them. The area is nice though. What we (specially the wife) realized after viewing some houses was how the rooms are smaller than what we're used to, and in many cases the ceilings are lower too. So adding that to the list of considerations, we finally found a place in Handsworth in the (recent?) estate opposite Aldi/McDonald's that we liked. Just moved in a couple of days ago, and we're looking forward to experiencing Sheffield Sorry, Hi.
  7. Wow. As much as this wealth of information is going to be very helpful for me, I didn't expect this course of discussion. Thanks nikki-red. The site that Cyclone provided for stats is very nice and can be useful. But I agree with others that I give much more weight to opinions of people who have real experience with something, in this case living in a certain area. Simply because of my life experiences. For instance if I ask someone to just visit my country because it's very beautiful, they'll be almost horrified at the idea because of the 'stats' spread around all over about it. In reality though, I just returned from there and thought I should move back sometime because of how nice it is. And my opinion is shared by everyone who has visited. This was a bit off-topic, but thought I'd put in my two-cents as to how I look at things, as I asked for suggestions. Detective, I see you do justice to your screen name with to the point matter-of-fact kind of posts. Thanks. From what Georgie girl has written, I think we're gonna like Brinsworth. I'll visit it in about a week. It really is close to my workplace. But for now I'm considering other areas suggested here too as we have to find something soon. Again, thanks everyone! I think I already like Sheffield
  8. This is very helpful as I'm about two weeks away from arriving in England and visit these places in person. DumDom, Dawniechocs - I'm keeping an eye on Walkley and Woodseats to see if something pops up on rightmove that we like. Thanks for the recommendation. The link that Cyclone posted is pretty helpful for the search. The specific area I was looking at in Brinsworth has a pretty low crime rate on it. ---------- Post added 21-08-2016 at 12:08 ---------- Georgie girl, thanks for taking the time to right down these details. Schools are gonna be pretty important for us, but currently I guess a daycare and good baby sitters are more important Are the bus links frequent? As only one of us drives at the moment.
  9. Thanks Cyclone! Rough how exactly? To be specific, the area I'm looking at is Whitehill Lane, close to the two primary schools.
  10. Hello again everyone. So I'm looking at some options now. One is in Hillsborough, I know already about that. The other two options are in Brinsworth and in Norton Lees. What are the opinions about these areas?
  11. WestTinsley, that's precisely the problem Before posting here I had Hillsborough and Walkley at the top of my list. Good to know I was looking at the right places. And now a new Costa!! I'll also add Meersbrook and Nether Edge to my list. In areas a bit farther, I may be able to get a more spacious place (2 floors instead of 3 for example) in the same budget. A quick search in Whiston showed the same. I'll also check out Chapeltown and Mosborough/Waterthorpe. I guess the other places mentioned may be a bit too far. But I guess I can only really know once I'm there.
  12. Thanks amazon123! This is very helpful. I hadn't looked in Woodseats and Nether Edge yet. I guess we can push the budget a bit if something really nice pops up. Let's see how it goes. Also, I'd like to find a good balance between a nice area and a good commute time to work (S9).
  13. Hey everyone! We're moving to England end of August (that's me, my wife and our ~2yo daughter). My office is gonna be near Meadowhall, and I'm currently looking to shortlist some areas where we should be looking to live. I've already gone over a lot of threads (old and new) and I'm overwhelmed with info, so I thought better to open a new discussion. We're thinking about a three bed house to rent for around £600-£700 per month. Our preference would be a family friendly neighbourhood, parks, daycares/schools, transport connections. Of course it's not *required* to have everything as that's not always possible, but the more the better. From what I've read already I'm thinking about S6 and S7 (I'm completely confused about specific areas in them atm). There's also Rotherham which is around 10 min drive from my office with good prices, but I'm not sure how good that area is. Looking forward to your valuable suggestions
