Can you name singer seen on MTV Channel?

My worst half has been telling me about a singer he has seen on one of the MTV channels recently and can't remember what he is called or the name of the song, but can remember it is a black guy singing and he can very clearly remember that there is a tall blonde girl with a very short skirt who is the drummer stood up playing the drums in the background.

Please tell me who he/they are and what the song is called so I can shut up him who must not be obeyed!
