Critical error on windows 10

Hi, I went to turn on my computer this morning (Windows 10) and got notification of 'Critical error Start menu and Cortana aren't working. We'll try and fix it next time you sign in'. It gives the option to sign out which I have done several times also shut down and restarted my computer but to no avail the problem is still there. Does anybody have any ideas on how to solve this problem please as it makes my computer practically unusable? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Update, I found a solution online. If you press F8 on boot up as you would have for safe mode, (it doesn't seem to do anything) but when my computer booted up the problem was gone and it is now fully working again.

If you are struggling, I rolled back my Mum's computer to Windows 8.1 the other day, as it also had problems with the Start menu. It's pretty easy and keeps your data.
